I read in another thread two quite different opinions of the Pinar brand. I REALLY don't want this to turn into a flame war, btu I am curious about them. THey are said to be "70% Pre-Embargo cuban tobacco."
There are those who say this is dishonest, and Pinar cigars do NOT contain any cuban tobacco.

Anybody have the skinny?

From what I've heard about these, even I would say.......Don't bother with that overpriced crap!!

Alright...I'll go out on a limb here. I've smoked Pinars from three different lines. I've smoked the Serie B 1958 Pre-Embargo, I've smoked the 2000 series, and I've smoked the XXX 3000 series.

Supposedly, the Serie B was actually rolled pre-embargo...BS! Personally, I don't think it has a bit of Cuban tobacco in it. It is not a horrible cigar and since I got it for about $4.50 a stick on Cbid, it is not that badly priced. I won't be buying anymore.

The 2000 series was supposedly rolled with 70% pre-embargo Cuban tobacco. Once again, BS. I don't taste any Cuban tobacco in them and frankly, they suck a$$. Lousy cigar, not worth even considering.

Now, the XXX 3000 series. Supposedly, this Pinar is 100% Cuban tobacco. All rolled from pre-embargo bales. I think this statement is utter crap. They have Cubanesque style, but they do not taste like Cuban cigars. Once again, no Cuban tobacco IMHO. However, I like this cigar. I think it is good in its own right, marketing aside. Most people on this forum don't like it and a bunch even hate it. OK, our tastes don't have to agree. I own a box of the XXX 3000 Toros. I have smoked approximately 1/2 of it. With the exception of some uneven burns, they have all been very good cigars. Definitely not Cuban, but good cigars nonetheless.

There's my 0.02.

Thanks, all. I wan't even planning on buying any, just curious. Maybe some time curiousity will get the better of me and I'll try one, but given the cost, there are so many great cigars out there...why bother?
