A few weeks back someone bumped Gigardawg's RTDA 2005 reviews and I saw a cigar from Peru that tickled my fancy.

So with my goal of smoking at least one cigar from every country that produces them I contacted Scot and today I received a very generous package with a bit more than I paid for
Now onto the review...
Tabacalera del Oriente - San Martin Robusto
100% Peruvian tobacco
The first thing I noticed was how well rolled this cigar was, it looked every bit like its cousins from Cuba, silky smooth wrapper with a triple cap. The smell was of good tobacco and gentle squeezing assured me that the cigar was full of leaf. A clip provided me with a perfect draw and the "straw out in the sun" taste Cuban Cuaba cigars are known for.
Pretty isn't it?
Densely packed but perfect draw.
I fired it up and was surprised how mild it was in regards to Scot's original review. It had a solid light brown ash. And produced a ton of creamy smoke.
I was going to pair this cigar with a cup of coffee, but at the last min decided for beer...
(What its says on the glass, is also whats in the glass :whistling: )
And I am glad I did, this cigar would have been overpowered by a strong cup of coffee, it would have went well with a café Au lait, but I'm not a drinker of sissy girl drinks
As the cigar progressed I leaned back and lost myself to the awesome tunes from my local classic rock cable radio station blaring from inside the living room (It is nice to have a few hours to yourself every night when returning from work).
ZZ-Top - Cheap Sun Glasses
Van Hagar err Halen - Round and Round
Rod Stewart - First Cut
Eric Clapton - Crosscut saw
Accompanied the first half of the cigar
Around the 3 inches to go mark the cigar changed a bit in taste, and became stronger. Still very mild to my palate, but much stronger than the first half.
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Shake For Me
Rolling Stones - Angie
Allman Brothers Band - Revival
Eagles - Already gone
Around this point I had about 2 inches to go, and the cigar started to pick up a slightly astringent taste.
Styx - Best of Times
And finally
Jethro Tull - Teacher
with about an inch left to go I nubbed it.
As Wilkey likes to call it... "Cigar Nirvana" From beginning to end a pleasant, well behaved cigar.
As I leaned over to grab what was left of my beer to suck it down, I then had a surprise... I had a decent buzz. Don't know where it came from, but it was there.
I'll have to give this one a solid 8.5/10 due to it being a bit milder than I like my cigars but perfect in every other regards.
Scot did tell me after I let him know the box arrived and I had plans on smoking one today to put the rest down for a long rest. He said they are OK now but too fresh... I look forward to updating this review in a few months to see if my second robusto more closely matches his original review.
Thanks brother! I really enjoyed it!
