Tonight I decided to dig into the humi and try one of the many cigars I have stored that I can't even remember where it came from. I dug around and decided on this one, a Perdomo Reserve (white label) that I think has a cameroon wrapper but they call it a "#4 maduro" on the CI site. Here's what CI says about these:
The size is 5 3/4 x 54
Price: $5.00
Construction: Very good consruction, nice and firm, not ugly but not pretty.
Pre light draw: Nice pre light draw, not too loose which drives me nuts.
Burn: Nice even burn, no need for relighting and no crooked burn which also drive me nuts.
Taste: This was the downside for me, the taste was kind of flat and I did not like the taste of this wrapper at all
Body: A medium bodied cigar, not too strong but not to weak which is in line with my preferences.
Finish: As I've mentioned in my previous reviews, I don't know exactly what this is supposed to mean but it tasted the same from start to "finish"
Overall: Not a cigar I would ever buy.
On a cA rating scale:
86
I'll stick with Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 (gold) for inexpensive domestics for now
This rich, full-flavored and slightly sweet Nicaraguan is gorgeous.
The Perdomo Reserve line is one of Nick Perdomo’s best. In fact, Cigar Aficionado’s Insider rated it a ‘92’, calling it one of the top cigars of the year. The Perdomo Reserve is blended with Nicaraguan long-fillers, and covered in one of the most attractive silky and rich wrappers you’ve ever laid eyes on, box pressed, and aged over 300% longer than usual. Ecuadorian Rosado wrappers on the natural, or Nicaraguan Maduro leaf on the maduros, and now the new Cameroon line, covered in genuine African-grown wrappers. The flavor is exceptionally rich with hints of spice, a slight chocolatey taste, and earthy, sweet finish.
The Perdomo Reserve Cameroon was named one of Cigar Aficionado's top 50 cigars for 2004. Along with a '91' rating, this is what they had to say:
"Wonderful texture to this cigar, which has a sweet, creamy flavor complemented by leathery qualities. It's a medium-bodied smoke with balance."
