Cigar: Partagas Series D No. 1 LE
Origin: Cuba
Ring guage: 50
Length: 6.75"
Box Code: GKI SEP 04

Atmosphere:
Pete Miller's Bar
With Big Band Jazz playing in the background

Accompanying beverage: Water

Prelight:
Very gorgeous brownish/red wrapper. Nice oily look to it.
Aroma was very distinct of wood and hints of spice.
Flawless construction from triple cap to foot.
Wrapper tasted very spicy.

I cut the end with my Xikar multitool.
Torched the foot. and enjoyed the very distinct aroma of woody spice.
So far so good.

Light:

This thing lit up beautifully.
Initial taste was that of intense spice. with very subtle hints of dark chocolate. This lasted for about the first inch.
After the initial explosion of spice, the cigar began to mellow out.
Almost to the point were the flavors became somewhat muted and hard to decipher. This could be attributed to its infancy. The flavors I kept finding every no and than were those of dark chocolate with hints of wood and sometime an almost citrus taste.

When the cigar reached the 1-hour point I began to admire the great construction and flawless razor sharp burn this cigar exhibited. After taking a sip of water. I continued to smoke the Partagas wondering would it stay muted the rest of the way. I almost put the No.1 out at this point..

But than suddenly out of nowhere the Partagas started to get really interesting.
It was like the orgy of flavors finally decided to come out and play.
The sweet citrus flavors married with great spice and chocolate quickly put the thought of giving up to rest. This lasted for about 20-30 minutes. Very enjoyable.

The final stages of this cigar seemed to be the best. The cigar smoothed off a bit but still had a nice chocolate/spics flavor to it. The creamy and rich smoke filled the bar area I sat in. At moments I would just look up and admire the smoke and take whiffs of its unique woodsy smell.

I finally came to the end of this cigar and was satisfied.
I guess I expected alot more out of a LE. But as I am quickly finding out. Seems like the LE are more hype than anything else.

Very excellent cigar for only having about 19 months in the cooler.
I feel with another year or so. The muted flavors found in the middle will come out and truley start to shine.
Highly recommended if you have the time to age them.
My Overall smoking experience would rate at about 6 out of a possible 10.

Alex, nice review! I have heard others echo what you have just said; muted flavors and needs more time to age.

I pulled one of these out the other night to smoke, but was immediately warned against it. I am happy that I listened and decided to give this more time.

Thanks for the review!!

Patrick

Was there with Alex that night and he kept complaining about it and was very disappointed in the cigar. Glad that it got better near the end. I think I'll let my part of that box split age another year or so before I put a flame to it. Nice review.
