This was a birthday gift to myself.
After work I hit the gym for a solid 1.5 hr. I came home and showered and got some laundry started. The wife is gone to a friends house and left a peach cobbler.
I grabbed some chicken and a flank steak I had sitting in a jerk marinade and went to the grill.
It is a pleasant calm mid 70's evening. I clipped this beautiful cigar and the draw was a little weak so I went bigger. The prelight draw was that of a nice Lusitania, all golden warm. The draw on this smoke was fine though I believe the consistency of the smoke was a little on the thin side and did not cling to the mouth as I would have preferred.
I threw in my Jimmy Buffett BEACHES CD and and sat back with this smoke. The first draws were of a warm vanilla woodiness that were spiced with something sweeter like wild grapes. As the sun was going down and the lightning bugs got active the smoke turned a little more like a honeysuckle vine.
I journeyed downstairs for a cognac and decided on a Pierre Ferrand cigare blend. Nice and leathery, round and full with vanilla hints.
I enjoyed my dinner and drink and smoke. The cigar turned even more woody and spice, like clove.
I finished my drink and poured another, This time a Cohiba cognac Extra. A very sweet cognac with a mild burn that pales into an earthy Rancio.
The cigar kept burning beautiful with a long straight flaky grey ash. As the stars started to appear. The buttersotch started to come on. I burned my fingers on a nub of smoky woody butterscotch cigar as someone a few houses down was setting off leftover bottlerockets.
It is my fault that I smoked it too hard and it lasted just less than 2 hour.
Now I am ready for some peach cobbler and coffee ice cream.
Any other parrothead would understand why: I love the now.
