New thread from the new guy...

About 6 months ago I was driving through Orange County, Cali. and I ran across a cigar store that I didn't know about...more of a head shop with a walk-in humi. So I stopped in and looked through the humi with nothing special on the shelves but I noticed grab bag samplers for $50 a piece. Each one one had some OK smokes, nothing to mention, but there was one Partagas 150 AA in each bag!! So, I didn't know what they were at the time. 2 months later a friend offered me a Partagas 150 D, told me how rare they are and how expensive they can be. So my thoughts went back to that head shop humi. I found the shop again and the freakin' grap bags were still there!!! So I asked the guy at the counter if I could pull out all of the 150's and buy them for $10 a piece and he said "Yes"!!!
Any way, I've got 5 150 AA"s sitting and recovering in my humi. Now the question..."How do I know that they are real?" There are no shops around where I live that has them for a comparison. Help?

Holy crap. That's a great find, assuming they are real. Good job.

I would look for pictures. I think Thompson's sells them and there should be some good pics of it. You could do a google image search too.

And, since someone's bound to say it,

"You can send them to me and I will carefully verify their authenticity over the course of oh 1-2 hours or so each."

I figured it would be a good thing to buy them. I didn't get some of the ones that were damaged though. There are most likely 4 left that were kinda beat up, beetle holes and all. They were all kinda dry...bad humi. I should get the rest though...maybe someone here might want to trade?? I don't really remember too much about the taste and strength...I will smoke one soon but I like strong smokes. I heard they are kinda weak. Is that true? Like I said, I'm going to wait until I know they have recovered a little bit.
I love finding things like that...never know what you'll find at these little strip mall tobacco shops!!!
I'm going to go back today to see if they will sell me the rest...I'll let you all know tonight.

Best bet would be to send me one.. SO i could um perform many tests on it assure it authenticity.. :-)

I've only had one once, while drinking with buddy's and really don't remeber it. Other than the rarity of these cigars...are they really that good? I've read a couple of the other posts about them and some of you don't think that they are all that fantastic. Just hard to find makes it more fun to have them. :p Oh, I will smoke them :D ...but not having had one that recently to know if they good or not, makes me think. Are you all drooling because they are good or hard to get your hands on?

IMO, no, they aren't worth the dough. Especially if the shop didnt take care of them. From what I recall, they were pretty light bodied 2 years ago. And I am sure the extra age isn't going to make them any better. If you like smooth mild cigars, try the the Macanudo Vintage's. <ducks> More flavor to me and better bang for your buck.

Right on, emo... I traded for two of them a while back just because I HAD to try them. They are a very "nice" smoke, but certainly not one of the great cigars for the price out there. VERY mild (smoke these with nothing more than a bottle of water). They smoke nice, taste nice (what there is to taste), but they are VERY mild (did I let you know they were VERY mild? )... I don't think they're worth the great price that's on 'em now....

Definitely a good find at $10 each. Hopefully, they've been held at 70/70, otherwise their value may take a hit if not...

Actually, to go back a few posts...I did have them authenticated. Real stuff! But, as a strong cigar smokin' man (ie. Opus, Anejo, double ligero chisels.) I don't know how long I will hold onto them. But they have been at 71% (just went to the shop today) good odor but a few beetle holes and couple of broken feet. But in overall good condition. I wasn't sure if they were as oily as they should be, but when I went into the shop that I found had them...they were in better condition than I thought they were.
Anyway, I grabbed the rest of them from the guy for $10 a piece. He had no clue what they are worth. I now have seven of 'em. I feel kinda like I hit the jackpot though...it's like looking at the garage sales and finding the Picasso for $5. It's fun to go out to all the different shops to see what they don't know they have. :p Once I found a shop that had Opus #4's for $5 a piece, so I bought the last 10 with the box. Did I mention it fun to find deals like that? Well, it is.
