I decided earlier in the day on Sunday that I would be smoking a Padron for my weekly smoke. These have been in the humi for at least 2 months, maybe more. The appearance of this cigar is close to flawless, and construction appears to be great. I took a few sniffs up and down the length of the cigar and there was some good tobacco smell that got me excited. I have had some PAM's before but it has been a while and I was more excited this time because I knew what to expect. I clipped the foot with my Zino and took a few draws which were practically effortless. Just the way I like it. I toasted the foot with my torch and let it settle down a bit before I got down to business.
Prelight & the First Inch:
I usually disregard the flavor in the first few puffs as it tends to be inaccurate of what's to come most of the time. This cigar started out with lots of smoke just like the other PA's I have had. There was earthy tones but nothing too raw or unpleasant.
The Next Couple of Inches:
The flavor really opened up after the first inch. I found this to be very creamy and no sign of harshness anywhere. I developed some uneven burning and had to do a touch up. No biggie though. Towards the end of this stage I started to develop some tingling on the tongue with each draw and some nutty characteristics were detected.
The Last Couple of Inches
At this stage the smoke was a little warmer and I tried to stay consciousness of not working the cigar too hard to prevent this from developing any harshness. The smoke stayed creamy and there were some cocoa notes. Copius amounts of smoke were still present and I did not want this to end.
Conclusion:
There is not much that can be said about this cigar that haven't already been stated. It was a real winner in my book and I will try to work my way through the vitolas to see if any other size suits me the better. I really think these cigars have some of the best construction around, and the way they are made allows them to be real smokestacks which is just how I like em. The most important thing that I can say I gained from this smoke was that it convinced me that I am displeased some with the condition of the cigar at ~70rh. This smoke lacked the razor sharp burn that I like and was softer than most Padrons I have felt on the pinch test. I have 65% media en route as we speak and will post some comparitive reviews after the humi settles to its new place. Thanks for a great forum and for allowing me to contribute! Marc
