I am sorry, am I missing something here? I usually don't question a vendor's price. And it's not my intention to dump on anyone here. But when a couple of BTOL are jumping in the thread stating how great of a deal this is, it got me a bit curious. I did some quick research and found that you can buy the following singles,

1 Padron 80th Maduro ($30)
1 1964 Padron "A" Natural (in our humidor since 11/06) ($30)
1 1964 Padron Diplomatico Maduro ($12)
1 1926 Padron No. 9 Maduro ($18)
1 1926 Padron No. 1 Maduro ($19.20)

Granted, the "A" isn't a year old, but it still only comes out to $109.2 for the 5 singles. That leaves $15.8 for shipping. All it takes is a bit of research.....

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I don't doubt this vendor is the shiznizzle, but could someone tell us what we're missing?
 
Not missing anything. Samplers are often more than the sum of the parts. You have to do the math if you want a deal.

I think how they price them is they take all the MSRPs and figure a discount price. They may not consider that some of the singles are available at below MSRP.

Pricing at most B&Ms is completely arbitrary. That's why you find good deals - and not so good deals. There's frequently no rhyme or reason to it.
 
It seems like in the past Israel has come through with some great deals. Because his sampler comes up a few dollars above MSRP I don't think is too ridiculous. There have been various vendors on the boards that have come up significantly more than MSRP, Israel not being one of them very often, if ever. I personally think the price he is offering the sampler is a great one at that. The fact that it is a sampler I think is also a good point. If you factor in shipping on each of those singles you would likely come up with more than the price of this sampler, not to mention the 80th is not the easiest cigar to find in a B&M and the ones I've seen them in are definitely not $30.

Nothing against you Ian, but this statement doesn't make a whole lot of sense. He's new here and if he wants to build a good reputation , than the sampler needs to be shipped for $110. I have found nowhere that has the 80th for more than $30 and have bought enough singles to make a box. Padrons are one of the easiest to find cigars so it's really not a competitive price. It may be good for him when he sells these singles with the taxes he has to charge, but there are no taxes added for cross state shipment. If you add up the singles he has to offer, a little search will come up with a price a good bit lower shipped than he has. It's not like he's selling 5 HTF cigars, other than the 80th, the rest can be found at most B&M's in quantity below MSRP. I've never dealt with him and he might have the greatest customer service in the world, but in order to get my attention (and I'm a full fledged Padron whore) the price hase to be pretty damn good and IMO it's not. I'm certainly not trashing this vendor, but responding to what others have stated in their posts. To each their own opinion.....and this is mine.

Israel is good people, no doubt.
Customer service is probably the best I've had in recent memory, no doubt.
He's got a sense of humor in the phone, no doubt.
If I was a chic, would I sleep with him? No doubt.... but I'd be in it for the cigars. (Was that outloud?)
The Padron sampler is good smokes, no doubt.

The price is so-so, no doubt. (As in, not pulling the trigger ASAP or "no way in hell, are you dumb?")

In summary: Many people will pull the trigger cause they can't get ahold of these. God knows I can't in my area. I simply don't have that kind of $$$ to blow on 5 cigars, regardless of how top-notch they are. However, if the Padron 80th does dishes... sign me up for 2.
 
There are many vendors who charge around $10 for shipping so we are really bitching over $5 give or take $1-2. The "A" is HTF as a single so this isn't a bad deal. I am not running out to purchase it, but to call a vendor into question on it is pointless IMO.

Like I said before, I don't question a vendor and the price. It's a business and they have to make a living. This is the forum created for just that purpose.

I just think that we need to be careful about why we support a certain vendor over the other. If it's the great customer service, good price, nice personality or cool 1-800 number for that matter, then point it out for everyone's sake. But do be careful about what constitute a good price. The going rate of some of the offerings here are not so easily determined (at least for me!). I sometimes rely on other BTOL's comments to help me decide....

I don't doubt that uptown_isy is a good vendor from some of the comments. Sorry I dragged him into this.
