This past Saturday was a pretty nice one out in Jersey, perfect weather to get a little outside yard work done. I’ve got a new above ground pool being installed this spring, and one of the outstanding tasks to be done before it goes in was to remove an old concrete foundation for a steel shed that’s in the way. So, after turning this:

Padilla Obsidian Belicoso
Length: 6.00
Ring: 54
Shape: Torpedo
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Ligero
Filler: Honduras & Nicaragua
Overall Rating: 8.7
The overall appearance of this cigar was awesome – it was well constructed with a beautiful dark wrapper with no large veins or blemishes. It looked very well packed, had no hard or soft spots, and clipped easily with no signs of unraveling. Pre-light draw was good with some very earthy flavors.
I put it to the flame, and the stick started awesome; a bit of spicy black pepper with an awesome rich tobacco background with a hint of toasted nuts. Shortly after, the black pepper took full control of the flavor, and all the other flavors unfortunately took a back seat. The pepper wasn’t overpowering but strong enough to make my tongue tingle. At this point I’d say the cigar was on the light side of full in body and medium in strength. The burn wandered a little but always corrected itself, and the draw was very good (full but not tight) and produced tons of smoke. The stick held about an inch of light gray ash in a slight March breeze.
Into the 2nd third of the stick, the flavor mellowed, a little of the rich tobacco flavor reappeared in the background accented by the black pepper. The burn was now very straight. This cigar definitely got better as it progressed! While the black pepper was still evident, the overall flavor grew much richer and a little creamy, a very nice combination.
The final third and finish were awesome – a rich and creamy warm tobacco flavor with some hints of dark cocoa, all accented by subtle shots of black pepper. The strength and body of the cigar grew along with the flavor, and by the end of the cigar I was feeling it pretty good. I nubbed it with about 3/4" left.
Overall, this was a pretty good cigar, especially given that I only spent about $2 & change for it. Even though the peppery flavor profile is not one of my favorites, I really enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend it.
Alrighty, let's see if anyone's still with me… :whistling:
I picked up a 20 pack of these during the private C-bid auction that was posted a few weeks ago. While I enjoyed the cigar, I’ve got sooooo many cigars to try thanks to some generous folks around here that I’ll never get around to smoking all of them. So, I’ll shoot out a fiver of these to the first reply to this thread (no PMs please) that meets these requirements: **DONE
