First off...I apologize if I do any injustice to this cigar...this is kind of my first official rating/writing of a cigar...and am no expert by any means. But on that note...

I just cracked open a new box of Padilla Series 68 Robusto's yesterday. They had been in my humidor about 6 months and I couldn't wait any longer...so I cracked the seal (I love that part!) and took one to the back deck with a nice drink (Gin and Tonic with fresh lime).

What a nice little cigar! Constructions was nice...actually VERY nice! The wrapper itself is very attractive and slightly dark, smooth, slightly oily, and sweet to the prelight aroma and prelight taste. I am really becoming a big fan of that Corojo-seed wrapper. It didn't blow me away on any level...but the taste was nice...burn was even...and stayed pretty consistant throughout the time on the deck! Not a single touch up with the flame needed! I like that in a cigar! It had some subtle hints of spice, a little earthy...definitely woody...a bit of leather...and if my taste buds were correct...a bit of coffee/mild chololate? I was a little surprised at that last one! But basically just really nice flavor! I was actually bummed when it was over! I don't say that about every cigar I take to my deck...even the many that I fully enjoy. This one was very even and consistant to the end...it didn't fizzle out to bitter near the end at all. Overall very balanced and not too much of either hint...not strong at all...but still flavorful. Not really sure what to compare it to...but it is a very favorable and memorable cigar. So all in all I consider this a very nice daily pleasure! I would definitely recommend this cigar to others...and will probably snag another box next time I see a good deal. I think next I will be purchaing this cigar in the Torpedo's...my favorite shaped cigar!

Enjoy!

Great and concise - my kinda review. ;)

I'm working on my second box and the first one was different. Different packaging and flavor. Both very good, though.

I'm also curious about the Torps! :)

Thanks for the review. I am a big fan of Padilla. To be honest, I have noticed if faltering a bit after the departure of Pepin, but they are still some damn fine cigars. I've tried most of the lines, but the Series 68 is one of two that I have yet to try. Looking forward to it after reading your review.

Thanks guys! I think this could be a great everyday stick! I am really loving them! I get stuck form time to time on this one or that one and have a hard time branching away...but safe to say...this one will remain a staple in my humidor!

I like the 68's too. I bought a sampler pack not to long ago with the 32's, 68's, and 48's. I enjoyed all of them.

I'm still uncertain as to whether this blend was ever made by Pepin. Ernesto Padilla, a 3-time member of this site, had this to say after my review a while back,

"The Padilla Series 68 that just received a 93 rating in this issue of Cigar Aficionado magazine, is NOT made by Pepin Garcia. It's made by the Cuban Aguilar family in Honduras. Great blenders great cigar I'm glad to have them a part of my team.

Regards,
Ernesto Padilla"

This seems to imply there was ANOTHER '68 that did not win a "93 rating in this issue of Cigar Aficionado magazine".

The review I did on this blend was from a flat box with a side-by-side display of 20 cigars. It did taste quite different form the most recent box I bought with a standard display.

Comments? ;)

Nice review, and it sounds like a tasty cigar.

Best way to get better at reviews I find is to read alot of them. They might help with putting words to the tastes and smells you may not be able to place words on.

JoseyWales...thanks for sending me a few of your '68 robustos to try along with the Gurkha and Rocky...Much appreciated. I received them in the mail last night. Heading off to CA for a weeek, but can't wait to try them when I get back, after they've had some time to settle...

And thanks to you thechenman a well! Really enjoyed that first of the Camacho's you sent my way. Always nice to try one you've been wanting to try. I am about to grab a box of the '68 Torpedo's we discussed...I let you know when I get them! Thanks again!

Great to hear you guys are enjoying sharing some smokes. It truly is one of the greatest aspects of this hobby of ours. But I would keep the specifics about what you are bombing each other with private, it's kind of a tradition around here.
