This is my first review (insert the proper qualifiers and apologies here). For those of you unfamiliar with this cigar, LINKY
I’ve been working on some new hand loads so I grabbed my favorite shooter, my chronograph, a cigar, and headed to the range. The range results were fantastic so it was time to light the cigar.
(\Edit for group and specs)
Remington 700 PSS .308
26" McMillan barrel
H.S. Precision Stock
Springfield 4x14x56mm Gen 1 scope
Ken Farrel mount
Harris bi-pod
I've always been a little wary of shops that have "custom" blend cigars (remember, I am a newb ) but I am soooo glad I disposed my irrational fear.
The construction of this cigar is very smooth with a silky feel to the wrapper. I clipped the cap and noticed this end of the cigar was a bit springy. I didn’t know if this was good or bad, but I thought it felt pretty cool. The pre-light draw is perfect and LOADED with flavor, mostly cedar, leather, and tobacco.
I don’t know the proper way to light one of these, so I held my flame to the nipple like foot and gave it a puff. The burn started out a bit un-even, but the wind had also picked up a bit. The burn corrected itself before I was even through the first third. The first third is dominated by a kind of sweet exotic spice with cedar popping in and out. By the end of the first third I am salivating in a way that puts Pavlov and his puppies to shame. This cigar is awesome; my body is acting like this thing is food. The ash holds on well and some how falls off at intervals that are almost intuitive.
Going into the 2/3, a new flavor creeps in, sort of a rich cream/toffee. Even with the wind I can tell this sucker is putting out tons of rich smoke. The cream gave way to a sweet and smoky mix, like a really good home made teriyaki jerky. This cigar has the perfect amount of spice in it, I exhaled through the nose and it didn’t burn like you would expect, it kind of tickled.
Going into the 3/3 I tasted a little bit of cedar mixed with anise, this combination of flavors grew in intensity only to be replaced with a strong cardamom coffee. This was definitely a nubber.
Over all, this cigar was awesome. I can’t recommend it enough. The constantly changing flavor profile was a real treat to the palate. Finishing the cigar, I found myself a little light headed (in a really good way). The 30 minute drive back home was a nice time to reflect on both a great cigar, and a great day at the range.
