Man I’m glad the weekend is here as it’s been a very long week what with month end and all. I also bought a new car (at least to me) with convertible top, it poured down this past week, and the damn thing leaked. So, had to jump through hoops to get it to the dealership just to be told I had to take it back again next week once they had approval to replace the top. Ah well, at least it’s under warranty.
It’s a beautiful day other than some heavy wind, which actually feels good with it being 75F. I poured a glass of Dunkelweiss and grabbed the first of four Outlaw Plasencia blends that was so graciously sent to me (and a number of others) to try. The wrapper on #1 is a dark maduro shade with slightly noticeable oil and a couple prominent veins. It has a good weight in the hand, is very firm when squeezed, and after punch the cap I find perfect resistance with not much taste coming through in the cold draw.
Torching the foot, the smoke wafting up to my nose has a sweet, citrus smell that is really good. After blowing on the forming embers and getting an even burn, I take several puffs that produce plumes of bluish white smoke. My first draw brings a mild to somewhat medium spice on the back of the tongue and throat with the smoke itself mild to almost medium. Flavors are really good with tastes of dark earth and strong leather, the finish is delicious and very clean on the palate.
A third in and the burn is razor sharp with a medium to light gray ash forming that holds strong until tapped off in the ashtray, at least it did through the first inch, the rest of the way it dropped on its own. Mild to almost medium strength smoke is flowing well through the perfect draw, and spice hits the back of the throat in just the right amount. Flavors continue to be incredibly good, dark earth being the most prominent taste with leather and slightly charred wood in the still very clean finish. I am really enjoying this cigar!
Through the final half, everything was consistent with sharp burn, perfect draw, delicious dark flavors, and rich, clean finish that was exceptional on initial exhale; however didn’t last very long. I will say it did get a bit hot right at the end with a slightly bitterness on the tip of the tongue. However, this was one solid smoke that I thoroughly enjoyed, reminding me quite a bit of a good Padron. Excellent smoke!
