Big fun is what we had for sure! I got a handshake from Avo and a cigar and handshake from Jonathan Drew. We met most of the Corona Cigar guys too, including the owner. Charlie (Stogieman) invited folks from a few other cigar boards and I got to met them as well. A great bunch of guys and a few real characters!
At the end of the night Jonathan Drew was handing out two of his new cigars for folks to try. Of course, he clips it, lights it and gives it to you. For a couple of people, this meant they had two cigars going at the same time. It's funny watching somebody trying to smoke two cigars at once. Mike (Sir Smokes-A-Lot) actually had 3 cigars going at the same time, an Opus X and two of the new cigars he got from Jonathan Drew. He finally clipped the Opus, saving it for later. This still left him smoking two cigars at once, with Jonathan asking him, what do you think of that one? How about this one? Sir-Smokes was doing his best to puff away, contemplate the complexity of each cigar and give a serious and thoughtful assessment. Smoking two cigars at once would just about kill me...it turns out, it didn't do Mike anygood either!
I only smoked two during the evening, but everybody else had at least four, I think Charlie and Mike both had 5 or 6. I was hoarse the next day just from the two I smoked and all the second hand smoke. Who would have thought a cigar store would be such a happening place? For the record, I smoked a nice Rocky Patel, Vintage 1990 that I bought there and a Bolivar gifted to me by Charlie's friend Oscar. Both were very nice.
I did some shopping, bought a few cigars and drooled over a few. They have quite a collection, including a standup glass humidor full of pre-embargo Cubans. One of the store guys told us they bought them from the estate of Ernie Kovaks after he passed away. No prices and I didn't ask....
Looking forward to the pictures!
