Okay. I'm about ready to order my humidor.
It is a 100 count humidor.

Also purchased a digital hygrometer.

But here is my question.
I'm seasoning/prepping the humidor.

I'm planning on using gel crystals for my humidifier.

Basically this (or the XICAR crystal jar brand):

Do I NEED to purchase the quick start solution to prepare the crystals?

I'm under the impression that I don't have to and distilled water is all I need.
Just trying to save a few bucks towards spending it on actual cigars and not on
unnecessary items.

*BTW, is there a difference between the beads or sheets from Heartfelt versus the gel crystal jars?

Thanks guys!

Get beads and distilled water. You'll be happier in the long run.

Wow...fast replies! Quicker than Amy Winehouse and her in-and-out of rehab. haha.

Thanks folks!

I tried the crystal/gel jars. They're straight garbage compared to viper beads. Get either a 1oz or 2oz tube and be done with it. I got the 2oz 65% tube for my 100 count and it hasn't moved from 65% since the day I put it in there.

beads vs. sheets....beds will hold the rh a lot longer. I am under the impression that sheets are more for temp storage or maybe lining a coolerdor, or using as a buffer for shipment. But the best way to find out is to PM Viper about it, or if you wait, I am sure he will pop into this discussion.

Beads are the way to go, did someone mention beads.....or you could get the beads

Your choice
Tim

Sheets react quicker to humidity swings, and beads will last longer, just won't react as fast. You are better off with beads, or Kitty Litter in the long run as they will hold more water and need to be recharged less.

100 count is way too small. Really seriously, trust me on it.

LOL
Well...I haven't smoked much. Rarely do.
Thought I would get a 50 cigar humidor, but ended up w/ a 100 cigar humidor.

The thought of 100 cigars in my humidor is a lot.
At least for now.

I figured I would get one humidor for now. Get another 100 along the way.
Instead of one big monster of a humidor. (I say that now...until...I change my mind later...sigh...)

But I have to admit, I've been bitten by the bug.
I'm constantly searching for more.

I may starve...but I'll have cigars. LOL (This is going to be my sig!)

All kidding aside, a 100count humidor will not hold a hundred cigars. Unless you only have petite coronas. As you start getting cigars you'll get all shapes and sizes. 60 cigars will be probably max, plus the beads.

I like humidors as well. So I may collect a few humidors along the way.

Most of the "luxury" type humidors such as Daniel Marshall, ST Dupont, etc. are sized usually
in 50 through 150 cigar sizes from what I've seen.

You got that right mate.

I have a 100 count "Humidif" Humidor which is stuffed full at 50 robusto's.
And, I get more in with the big block removed from the lid, and beads in four cigar sized tubes.

As far as collecting Humi's goes man, I am with you 100%. There are some real nice small boxes out there. I am considering buying another 200 count just for the fact it is such a nice piece of furniture.

So I may collect a few humidors along the way.

But think of all the money that could have gone towards the purchase of cigars. It is great when you find a humi that looks great and compliments the room, but then there is the maintenance of several humis. IMHO.
Good luck and welcome.

This is all too true. I started with a 120-ish count humi. Filled it up pretty much instantly. Now have that humi full, plus a 45 quart cooler that has barely any room left in it...

Just for the record...

I haven't even received my humidor yet (and have ZERO cigars)...and I'm already contemplating purchasing/planning out a wine-o-dor!
The addiction...ahhhhh...must have more. Must buy more...

I've had great luck with the 48qt igloodor. It holds rock solid rh and is perfect size for most boxes...

BTW... I'm thinking this thing will hold up to 20 boxes in it... seeing as how some are PC sized...

I remember when I thought my 50 count humidor would never get full. Now that poor thing is lying empty because I had to buy a 70-quart cooler to put all my sticks in. And I only started this hobby a few months ago!

My humidor, hygrometer, and Heartfelt beads arrived!!! Looks like I'll be busy seasoning tonight.

The only thing that sucks...I ordered a round hygometer w/ the intention of fitting it in the "slot" designed for the analog hygometer. The problem is...the round "slot" on my humidor...is too small!!!!!!! DAMMIT!

And returning it back to the vendor for another type of hygometer...I'll spend more money on shipping and possibly insuring the damn package.

Sigh...I'll deal w/ it for now.

But I'm happy w/ everything else.

And just as a note, Heartfelt was quick to send me my order. Thanks Viper!!!
