I was gifted a few Opus's (robusto's) and I was wondering, how long should I leave them in the humi before consumption? I had purchased a (belicoso (sp?) and it was kinda harsh, flavorfull, but hard to keep lit evenly, it canooed in the first 2/3 of the cigar. Just curious...

Sometimes I don't even make it out of the store, before I fic my bic !

i've never had one for more than 2 days. but i've only had 4 or 5

I've had similar experiences with Opus X Rob. Fresh out of the store, they are almost always too wet resulting in burn problems. I keep my humi between 60 to 65 % RH (closer to 60%) and they burn fine!!

Sorry but I can't give you a time frame but I'd say a couple of weeks oughta so. If you want them to "dry out" faster, I'd recommend removing the cello. If you plan on keeping them in the humi for a longer period of time, I would recommend keeping the cello on for protection.

Had two since first of may, along with a Pam 40th.

Guess I starting to be a collector.

Friends don't let Friends store great cigars!!

I'm certainly not the Opus x-pert around here (paging Dr. Welch!), but cigars of this strength tend to smooth out given time.
how much you'd like it to smoothen/mellow through the aging process is up your you and your personal taste-preferences.

...if this will be your fist Opus x-perience (man, the "x"'s just keep coming at the best times, here!), then you might as well light it up soon to see if you like 'em nice and fresh. if it seems too "harsh", then you'll know to give future ones a little more time.

If you are talking about the Opus XxX (the small beli) I've had that same problem with everyone one I've smoked this past release or two. If you are going to store them long enough to wear down the strength, it might be 4-6 months, then up into the years. People loved aged opus! :D

Everytime I get two "collectible" cigars Eric rags me till I smoke one. Friends don't let friends store great cigars, I like that phrase! :D

this is a question we at are shop started pondering last christmas.
seems the beli kayak was talkin about had tinny taste to it as did some of the others we received.i have one ive kept since then and was actually gonna smoke it tonight. the shipment we received just last month was fine beautiful tasting burning the whole nine yards right out of the box. but they were none of the sizes from the previous shipment. i also have 2 other from the first batch that were also suspect.

so tonight i shall fire the beli up and see if 5 months has changed it.

to anyone who has had one of these cigars from the christmas era and didnt like please pleas try another from another batch ..these truly are fine cigars

be back in about 30 with results from the tasting

as far as i can tell the size of the opusx i mentioned before was not a beli

but series X robusto (if i matched it correctly against mokis page).
the cigar has mellowed a bit but the tinny taste is still there(its less than straight out of the box but still there).this makes me sad cuz that means the 2 belis i have in my humidor are not likely gonna be any better.i will smoke them
and count my blessings.

in case your wondering in this case these werent just one or two bad cigars. we had complaints from almost every person who bought them, our regulars anyway.
like i also said the stuff we got after that batch were just fine.
i spent about 50 bucks over 3 days tasting one from each box and not a bad one in the lot.
