Pre-light- Because of the lovely weather outside, I decided I needed a nice smoke to finish off a rough day. I grabbed this Opus X xXx which had a slightly yellowed cello, containing a flawless cigar wrapped in a medium-dark wrapper. It smelled absolutely delectable.
First Inch – I toasted the end of this small expertly constructed cigar, I took 3 light puffs of it to finish a nice bright orange ember. It was unbelievably smooth, with a light pepper presence, giving me nice volume of smoke. After a few minutes the draw became too tight so I clipped off a little bit more giving me another perfect draw.
1/3 – It remained very smooth, with small lovely cedar and spice hints. It quickly developed a white pepper flavor, with a mild hint of coffee. It was extremely mellow, with plenty of flavor and a generous amount of smoke.
2/3 – Earthy with a touch of hay is what I thought just passing over into the 2/3 mark. It had a little bit of tar build up, but after a small purge it returned to its smooth and lovely former self. A nice light gray ash was forming, as well as very dense delicious flavors of cocoa, pepper, and coffee. After each draw I remember heavy cedar after taste coating my taste buds, which didn’t bother me a bit.
3/3 - Cheyenne pepper became more predominate, as was the light coffee flavors I tasted just minutes before. The after taste was a strong almost floral woody flavor, following the strong spicy smoke flowing into my mouth. As I neared the end of this lovely stick, I took one last drag and allowed the smoke to linger in my mouth longer than usual, not wanting to put the cigar down. But I decided it was time as I laid this beauty to rest. A friend brought me a gluten free cinnamon roll from the healthy baking lab to top off this lovely cigar, damn it was one hell of a finisher.
Pre-Bite - It was a coarsely coated, glazed cinnamon roll about the size of a half dollar, smelling sweet and delicious. I sat it in the palm of my hand, noticing it was quite heavy for it's size, I couldn't wait to dig in.
1/3 – The cinnamon roll was dense, but well-constructed despite missing the best part… The gluten! It had nice sweet flavors of cinnamon and some unknown sweetener, brushed on generously enough to make your mouth water.
2/3 – The sweetbread was heaven to chew through, as the glaze coated my taste buds, mixing the spice of the cigar, with the sweet of the pastry. With each stroke of my jaw the chewing made my mouth water, wanting more of this tasty treat.
3/3 – At last, the last bite of cinnamon roll, I popped the small piece of chewy goodness into my mouth, chewing slowly to make the moment last. I gently ground the fluffy glazed bread with my teeth, extracting as much flavor as possible. After the elongated pairing of sweet and spice, I took one last gulp and bye bye the cinnamon roll went. What a lovely little treat to finish my lovely cigar.
