Being a very huge Newbie to Bourbon, I was asked to review this new gift from Par3.
Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whisky.
First looks, creamy caramel color, light to the nose in terms of smell. Started off the drink with a few cubes of ice. First sip opened up the nose and warmed the belly. Added a splash of water and continued. I can really taste the oak with a creamy finish. After taste left on the lips is a nice vanilla flavor.
After enjoying a little longer, I had to mix it with some coke…sorry, I am a Newb to this. Not being a fan of the typical Jack and Coke, this was much better. Not to stiff or harsh, but smooth and finishing nicely. Towards the end, still getting that nice finish of caramel/vanilla.
Couple this with the generous Opus X Perfection X #4.
Camera died as soon as I started, so no pics…sorry!
Prelight:
Beautiful band, nicely constructed, smell of cedar.
First Light:
A little spice, actually more than I expected to find with this cigar.
First 1/3:
Hints of cedar and spice roll through with this cigar. My favorite part is the aroma! Thick with almonds with cedar. The cigar continues to put out the consistent hints of cedar and earthy tones.
Second 1/3:
The spice picks up a bit with the aroma remaining unchanged. The pallet is left with a more earthy taste now and the cedar taste dissipates. As the spice picks up, the mix with the vanilla from the Bourbon blends well. This being my only 2nd Opus, it is still living up to the hype. The fact that it is consistent and in no way harsh, it does not disappoint.
Final 1/3:
Strength begins to kick in a bit. So does the spice. Smoke is still enjoyable, but the spice is getting a little harsh. I let the little guy sit for a minute or two and the smooth earthy tones return. Full taste and full smoke. The cigar finishes with more spice then it started with, but still remained enjoyable. The aroma did not change, full smoke and a sweet earthy aroma. Great burn.
Final thoughts, being only the second Opus I have had, it is not my favorite, but I feel I have many more to go. Still a smoke I would enjoy again. Definitely gave me a buzz…or that could be the Bourbon.
Thanks again PJ!
