My usual Opus X smokes are the No.4 and the Fuente Fuente but Saturday night I was in the mood for something a little different, the weather outside was beautiful and I had a couple of hours to spare so I pulled a Perfecxion No.2 from the bottom of the humidor.
These cigars are a thing of beauty ..... perfect construction, great smell and that band on these larger format cigars is a piece of artwork. I've had a few Opus X before so I was already anticipating a "typical" Opus X smoking adventure, firm cigar, silky wrapper, sweetness on the lips and that infamous Opus X citrus/nutty/spicy taste.
Upon lighting the cigar I was quickly greeted by loads of smoke, the spicy/citrus/jalapeño tastes and a deep nutty/earthiness taste. But this Opus X was different from my usual No.4, the spiciness quickly hid behind the nutty and earthy tastes, not disappearing but taking a backseat to the other flavors. I expected the spiciness to come back to the forefront but it stayed tucked away and the earthiness stood its ground throughout the entire length of the cigar. What a nice change
I knew this cigar was going to be a long lasting smoke but everybody was quite surprised that I was still going strong after 1-1/2 hours.
