My usual Opus X smokes are the No.4 and the Fuente Fuente but Saturday night I was in the mood for something a little different, the weather outside was beautiful and I had a couple of hours to spare so I pulled a Perfecxion No.2 from the bottom of the humidor.

These cigars are a thing of beauty ..... perfect construction, great smell and that band on these larger format cigars is a piece of artwork. I've had a few Opus X before so I was already anticipating a "typical" Opus X smoking adventure, firm cigar, silky wrapper, sweetness on the lips and that infamous Opus X citrus/nutty/spicy taste.

Upon lighting the cigar I was quickly greeted by loads of smoke, the spicy/citrus/jalapeño tastes and a deep nutty/earthiness taste. But this Opus X was different from my usual No.4, the spiciness quickly hid behind the nutty and earthy tastes, not disappearing but taking a backseat to the other flavors. I expected the spiciness to come back to the forefront but it stayed tucked away and the earthiness stood its ground throughout the entire length of the cigar. What a nice change :)

I knew this cigar was going to be a long lasting smoke but everybody was quite surprised that I was still going strong after 1-1/2 hours.

Sounds like you enjoyed the No. 2 nontheless.

I've had most of the regular series Opus, but not the No. 2 (or the double corona or robusto). I'm amazed at the range of flavour profiles and strength between the different vitolas. I'm quite partial to several of them, some I thought were decent, and some I tried my best to appreciate but was at a loss.

I've heard people say that one mans treasure is another mans dog rocket, and in general I whole heartedly disagree. If this were the case, then why would the majority of us on this forum seek out the same sticks (and raise your hand if you can't stand a particular Padron). However, I'm at a loss as to why my least favourite Opus' are some people's smoke of choice (it must be that every one else is wrong). :whistling:

It is amazing the differences between the sizes, i personally only like the smaller opuses . I guess i should say, from what i have had i like the 4,5 and xxx but im far from trying the whole line of opus.

This is because we are all sheep and we follow what the others who have come before us say to the letter!!!

I hate the 40th Anniversary natural...and the 64th Anniv natural (all)...and the 1926 Anniv natural. Need I go on? :whistling:

Yes, I did enjoy this No.2 ... I'll have to search out a few more for the humidor.

Hey Feter, is that Scotch in your glass or what?!

Actually, I hate the Padron Naturals also. I just never read anyone say bad things about the company in general, as the PAM's and 1926 maddies are so spectacular.
