I decided to smoke the CFCF 2009 Love Affair today while chilling out in the garage. I put on my Zen with my Russian music and set out to finish this cigar. As I have already smoked one before, I knew what I was getting myself into.
After a visual inspection, the cigar looked like it had no flaws. I cut the cigar and lit it at 4:36pm. The wrapper is pretty dark and has an easy draw on. Plenty of smoke comes off each puff. The first exhale through the nose revealed its still young. Then it took the breath away as its such a strong little cigar. First note I detected was a white pepper smell and then the strength hit me.
Naturally the burn through the dome section is a little rough and finally evens out after passing it. My first impression at this point is that this cigar kicks like a mule and the smoke could bring tears to a jackasses eye. I didn't exhale much on this bad boy. It reminded me of the Chili Pepper I picked up at Casa Fuente when I flew out to Las Vegas and then drove to Cali where I herfed with Seadub, Rod and a few others on the board that one time. Only difference between the two is that the Chili Pepper was stupid strong with not much going on and the Love Affair had a couple of transitions. Mainly in the strength department. I will say I enjoyed it more than that cursed Chili Pepper I had so many years ago.
I will add a warning label to this. Smoking this cigar after having some coffee could end bad. Like the time OpusXKC almost crapped his pants on the bridge incident. So you all know in advanced to not smoke this while on the road or in enclosed spaces. Its pretty potent for a little cigar.
I finally took the small band off before it would have started to burn. It came off pretty easy. The burn at this point is pretty good considering things. The ash is pretty compact ad tight. The ash reminded me of how the Hemingway Short Story goes. I decided to ash it so it couldn't muffle what is going on with the cigar. Again, if you can't handle a strong cigar, I would let this one age a few years. I'm glad I had a heavy meal before smoking this one again. I even got a nice nicotine buzz off this one and there is very few cigars that can claim that from my experience of cigar smoking. After I took the small band off was the only time there was a brief hit of a raspberry truffle taste. It disappeared as fast as it came.
Unfortunately, like my little experience the other day with the CFCF 2009 Opus X LFMF, a crack appeared on the wrapper. It didn't hurt the draw like the LFMF did. I've got pictures of both which shows them. They showed up after I started smoking the cigar. A little disappointing, but oh well. I took off the big band with no problems at all.
Not much else happened with the cigar. It did pick up strength near the end and a slight hint of a tar taste. Nothing that distracted from the cigar. I smoked it down to a little under a 1/2" before I had to toss it. I ended this cigar at 5:32pm.
Over all impression is to eat a full meal before smoking this. Do not smoke in a confined space like a car. And finally don't let it fool you as its a "beast." I can not wait to see what age does for this cigar. I already have a general time frame picked out when I will revisit this bad boy and probably be done while in Russia between Sept 2011 till Sept 2012.
