I've been watching and buying Opus the last 3 years. I have seen every problem possible when it comes to Opus. Whether its the common line or the CFCF boxes, there is a trend of going down hill. I hate to say it but its the truth. If you only buy 10 or so a year, the chances are you will be lucky. When you do what I do, the odds increase drastically. I just smoked a Anejo #48 that had a channel inside the filler almost the entire length of the cigar. I didn't run into these kind of problems 5 years ago. If I did, I don't remember it happening. But since 2007, I have seen way to many problems arise with my beloved Opus X. Too the point I decided I was better off with purchasing the CFCF boxes instead.
Now the bad news. Even the CFCF boxes are sliding down hill. The 2008 to present have had many screw ups in them. I had one CFCF box where the corner was broke. I had one cigar that it looked like someone took like a 1/16th " thick needle and poked a hole in a HTF cigar in the CFCF box. I will let the pictures give you some idea what I am talking about.
Above picture: As I was cutting the cap, this happened in the process.
Above picture: After inspecting the coffins, I ran into this little gem. There was a bunch of others damaged in this CFCF box.
Above picture: I opened the box it was sent in like it if was Ft Knox and found this.
I don't collect the CFCF to collect. So most of the problems I've run into isn't a huge issue for me. The real problems I have is when it comes to the cigars like the one I shown with the crack after cutting it.
This is the direction the HTF Opus X have taken. We can not forget about my Opus x Power Ranger incident that happened in 2008. Maybe there is more Opus X now on the shelves simply because of the
Quality Control and Inspections have been severally lax. I went to my original B&M shop and was amazed that they had so many Opus X on the shelf as well. They started restricting the amount you could buy to the point they always have them in the shop now.
