Gentlemen,

I was on the CA website and they had a video of the two head editors smoking upmann and dunhill cigars from 1962. They seemed to really enjoy them, comparing the cigars to aged wine. I have asked several fellow cigar lovers who have smoked old cigars and said that they weren't that good and not really worth the premium. What do y'all think?

I'd take a Padron 1926 80th over those anyway if I was paying a "premium" for something.

Great cigars when they've been cared for properly.

Problem is it's a huge gamble finding ones in the market that are. Some knock your socks off, while others are dog rockets that you just wasted $100.00 on. Not worth the risk IMO unless you really know your source, or you have a large amount of disposable income and have an easy come easy go attitude.

I think of it like I think of old snatch. Could be pretty tasty...if it's been taken care of. I guess you could say proper temperature and humidity are like kegels.

I wouldn't believe anything those two guys from CA said. Let's just say they've got a track record. I don't think they wouldn't admit they were dog rockets if they were.

Ooo good to know!

I have had some amazing pre-embargo smokes, especially dunhill seleccions. Like John said, finding something properly cared for and stored for 50-60 years is the real trick. That being said, to my tastes comparing a padron 80th to a *properly stored* Dunhill or vintage Cuban is sort of like comparing a jack in the box taco to a prime NY strip in terms of the variance between the two. Don't get me wrong, I love a good Padron, but its not even the same sport. Then again one is 4 years old and costs somewhere between a third and a tenth of the other so....

Forgive me if this is against the rules but how much does a pre-embargo stick cost? I was watching a video where a gentleman in England found a cabinet of 500 H.Upmanns from 1897 that he said were still smokable because they were stored in a prime environment.. those must cost a fortune per stick!

You can expect slightly above $100.00 to be the minimum for something that was nothing special back in the day, and then on up from there for something that was.

I know a British Citizen :whistling: who while in the UK paid a bit over $100.00 USD a piece for a handful of Don Alfredo Dunhill's no bigger than my pinky a few years back. They just flew under the pre-embargo time frame.

At least 500.. those 1897 Upmanns are still considered pre-embargos! lmao.

There's this B&M in San Francisco that has a decent sized pre-embargo selection, along with regular smokes. From what I remember, they ranged from about $120-180 depending on the cigar. (Sorry, I don't remember exactly what the cigars were). I was super curious as to the taste and flavor-profile, but I couldn't fathom spending that much on one cigar for no reason/occasion.

I'd be curious to know which shop.
