Opinions needed...are these fake ISOMs?

BrownDevil said:
Hey all,

Friend of a friend came up on these...I believe they are #2s right?
There is just a slight difference in color of the smokes & bands. Any opinions would be great!
thanks,
Robert

Hey Brown,
In order to find out for sure, please package them up, send them to me, my info is listed in my profile.
As a free service to your friend, I will do some destructive testing in my home, eh.....laboratory...and let you know what the results are.

Give me a few days, I'm currently working on some other destructive testing. I think I could fit it in on Saturday around noon. (I will be attending the Cigar Dave Show live at Comerica Park in Detroit.)
Tonight I tested a Padron, it was real. Actually, it was really good! :D

If he really wants to butter me up, he can send along a 6 pack of Leinenkugel Red Lager, that would help. :D Anything to help a friend of a BOTL!

Well he came up on only two, or I'd be happy to send you one for testing ;)
He actually didn't know what he got his hands on, and when I mean he came up on, I mean he "came up on" only two, he decided to leave the remainder of the full BOX there for whatever Godly reason.

So.....on a more serious non-sarcastic tone.....do these look like the real goodies??

Well, to be honest, I saw one or two in the cigar pass that I just sent out on Saturday, and they do look very similar. Too bad he didn't grab the rest of them!
I'm sure someone here will be able to say with more certainty, although the pictures provided do not really do justice to the bands.

Good luck Brown!

Pictures are a little too fuzzy. Go to CA's site and check out their section on fakes:http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Counterfeits/Counterfeit_Gallery/0,3390,,00.html

I thought I heard that a little while back, Monty bands were updated with a creamier brown color and a different version of their croix (sp?). I can't remember who told me, but I think they said the legs of the croix (sp? were a little larger and more pronounced. Loking at that picture, that seems to fit the bill. But, I am no expert, so don't take my word on it. Maybe the FOGs who smo...........er know more about those sticks could chime in.

They have changed their bands. The cigars could be real but you won't know unless they are smoked. Glad to help you out there if you like. ISOM's from the same box ususally have consistent color bands although the color of the band may vary from print run to print run. It is also helpful to measure the cigars as one of the first tests since the cigarmakers are usually very careful about making sure they are the correct size and you could easily put a small ruler in the picture to help.

"came up on" ??? Well where at? The entire story could help. Chances are you'll need to smoke them, but added detail could end this quick. Also, JMO...but when someone give me sticks outside of my "cyber-club" of bruddahs, I just look at it as a friendly gesture. Chances are usually slim that they are authentic and frankly in those situations I don't even care. I have or have access to just about anything through good solid channels. Why waste anytime trying to authenticate some gift from an individual with no knowledge? You could have the real deal at your door step in less time than it would take to get other people to verify authenticity of those 2 sticks. Big hassle, waste of time, and flat out pointless if you ask me. Smoke them...if you like them....cool....if not....whatever. Use CP as your base to aquire the real, don't waste your time on the unknown. My 2cents. :)

Also, if your friend recalls, the color of the sticks in the full box should be nearly identical, or should vary smoothly from one side to the other (or so I've been told ??? )

Was he able to examine the box for stamps, codes, branding on the bottom? That would be additional confirmation of genuineness.

How did he "come upon" a box? If you don't mind my asking and if you don't mind telling.

Hey all,

Thanks for the replies. Well as I've mentioned, it was actually a friend of a friend...and once that other friend doesn't work at his present job anymore (should be a week or two), AND if anyone still cares haha I'll post the story.

ANYWAYS

Last night as me and MY friend were gonna sit outside to catch the meteor shower and enjoy these 2 smokes in questions...he stops me and says, oh no, these aren't for us (friend and browndevil) These are for me and "joe" (friend and friend of a friend)! Now I hope their fake and filled with tabaco beetles!

So I went from a ISOM monte #2 to a CAO Black Storm, and the clouds above prevented me from seeing **** fly through the sky, the damn ATM machine at Washington Mutual jammed when I tried to pull out 100 bucks, so this morning I've been trying to get it straightend out, AND my oldest daughter starts junior high today (any fathers with girls this age or older should understand why I'm putting this into this bad category of events).

And I quote "If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at al"

A very disturbed BrownDevil on Thursday ???

Rat Bastard

Nothing like the 'ol "I'm saving these for my real friends" bait and switch.

And brother, I don't have daughters, but I teach that age group. Good luck with the little lady ???

Too bad you didn't have time to pull a band switch and put his Monte bands on some bundled Dominicans then give them back to him :p

lol that sucks.. they do look real... and they look like they eigther have some age.. or have not been stored properly.

Impossible to determine from a picture. Funny how so many of you are concerned if the band is real...... think about it. :)

The Beast said it well......

Ditto what Kenny and Beastie said... JMHO, those look like 2 completely different cigars though..not just in color.
