Laguito #2
Wrapper: Honduras
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Size: 6"x38
Beverage: Water with a lemon
I have been entranced with this cigar since I first read about it. Unfortunately, there is little to be found. So I bellied up and ordered a few from Davidoff in NY. Sadly, they have not perfected the art of shipping fivers.
The cigar has a rough, chocolate brown appearance. I am not sure if it is tooth or just a rustic roll. It looks oily but feels slick and firm like teflon. There is not much prelight scent, but the draw was easy and had hints of spiced bread and bananas. A short toast didn't produce much aroma, but then I took the first draw. For a cigar from Nicaragua, it started lighter than I expected. But the flavor was there immediately. I could taste hints of leather, a floral spice, and to my suprise a grassy earthiness that instantly reminded me of a Cuaba! After the first third most of the floral...ness had subsided leaving hints of cedar and a stronger leather and a creaminess. The final third was full of cedar, leather, cream and still that great grassy earthiness.
The burn was decent (with the exception of a few wrapper problems most likely due to the shipping) and the smoke was cool and ample to the last inch when I let it die.
The one thing that stood out about this cigar was how well balanced it was with all of the flavors that were present. I have never had a NC that was acutally cubanesque, but this was very similar to some of the younger medium bodied ISOM's that I have had. Especially the earthy tones.
With the exception of the wrapper problems I would rate this one an easy 92.
