OK. As I posted a couple of weeks ago, I finally broke down and bought a box of these cigars. The box is very nice, black lacquered with the big gold X on the front.
Like most Oliva products that I have smoked, this cigar was very well constructed. It had a dark wrapper...pushing maduro, but not quite there. It was well packed, but had a light pre-light draw. The pre-light nose was of earth and coffee. The cigar burned dead even throughout. It had a nice white ash, though not as firm as the construction would have suggested. The draw stayed open and each puff produced plentiflul smoke. The smoke was think and medium-to-full bodied. The cigar stayed cool down the the 1 inch mark.
The flavors on this cigar were somewhat remenicent of the O Bold, though not as complex. It started with straight-forward coffee and charred wood flavors. There was just a hint of pepper, but it was very subtle. As the cigar developed, the coffee flavors became more pronounced, with just a hint of pleasant bitter undertone. Toward the back end, the charred flavors came on strong as well as just a bit of wood. All in all, a very good cigar. Definitely worth a smoke.
Interesting thing is, according to the local Fuente rep,the law suit is going to be settled. That tells me that the Oliva family is going to change the name. This cigar (in its current format) might not be around too much longer.

nice review!
I'm realizing that I really need to check out Olivas. seems like plenty of people around here like 'em. I pulled an O Bold out of a pass the other day, so now I'm looking forward to blazing it even more.

As always, great review Scot. I can't wait to try the one you gifted me! I should print out this review and see if I can pick up on the flavors you describe. I'm horrible at describing them (hence no reviews from me yet). :sign:

Stop me if you heard this before!

I am sure by now you are getting to understand where most of my reviews have come from.

1). Dawg is intrigued by certain cigars.
2). Dawg decideds to buy a box of said cigar.
3). Dawg smokes the said cigar.
4). Dawg posts awesome review on said cigar.
5). Dawg gives me sample of said cigar.
6). I smoke said cigar.
7). I post thanking Dawg.

So here we go again. Scot got a box of the Oliva Series X Boomer and gifted me one last week. I got to smoke it last night. Again, like most times, i defer to his review with these small comments. Overall a good cigar. I was expecting a little more body from the cigar (i had in my mind that it was kinda like a poor-man's Bold O for some reason). It was a steady performer with lots of smoke. Contruction was good, maybe a little soft to the touch. Overall I enjoyed it. I have to send out another huge THANKS to Scot!!!!!

Hit the nail on the head Patrick. I also smoked the Oliva Series X that Scot gifted me last night. As Patrick has done, I will defer to Scot's review for details on this cigar. Overall, I enjoyed this cigar. Good amount of smoke, nice even draw, and somewhat mild (but pleasant) flavors. I did pick up on the hint of pepper and the flavor (to me) reminded me a bit of a Padron '64 maduro. I know it sounds crazy, but that was the first cigar I thought of when I tasted the Oliva X. Not nearly as good, but the flavor profile was similar IMO.

VERY nice review, I'm putting these on my list of 'gotta try's'

I just smoked one of these last night and I will agree with the review. The smoke was thick enough to be called creamy and the only thing is I didn't pick up on the peppery flavor mentioned but I really enjoyed the smoke and am definetly not kicking myself in the ass for buying the box a very good purchase all in all. I would reccomen them to anyone. edited to add that I got the Tabu not the boomer little smaller ring gauge and a little longer in length
