This is only my 2nd review so hopefully it is a bit better than the first one I did. Scotch is SO much easier to review.
I had a few singles of these previously and decided to srpring for a box last month. I mean. who can resist that fancy toilet seat shaped box
This batch has much more kick then I remember the few singles having. Maybe it is because they only have a three weeks of humi time on them but damn I got a head buzz during the last third.
The wife and I decide to walk down to the "castle" that is being built down the road to say hello to the new neighbors and to check it what all is being done to the house. Just before we left I fired up the Oliva. I call it the castle because it is a $450K, 4500 sqft monster being built among our $200K farmland shacks. Nice people with 3 kids and a dog who I'm sure will use up most of the space.
Back to the Oliva, for the review I'm going to borrow SDStacks review format.
Appearance: Wonderful
Appearance Notes: A very very dark maduro. It is a large 54 ring by 7 iin torpedo, easily an hour + smoke.
Construction: Excellent
Construction Notes
Nice firm roll at all parts to the cigar. Not a single shread of tobacco out of place. Consistency was perfect on this one and all the others I looked at in the box.
Burn: Even through out all the way down to the last inch.
Problems: None
AshColor: Light Grey
AshStructure: Very firm, Even walking outside with some wind I had 2" ash that had to be purposely flicked off.l
Draw: Fairly easy but not quite to the level of a PAM. Not tight by any stretch.
Aroma: Great, even the wife commented on it.
Smoked_To: The the last 3/4"
Strength: Strong (for me anyway)
Recommended: Highly
Class: Premium boxed
Taste Notes: This, to me, was a great cigar. Stronger than I'm used too but in all the right ways. Spices, chocolate and leather came to mind with an aftertaste that just keeps on forever. It made me want to fire up another but I knew I'd be out on the floor if I did. I don't think you can get more maduro then this. The dark almost black wrapper makes for a very strong appearence that lives up to it's looks.
Overall Notes: I couldn't handle this on a daily basis but for those moments of kicking back with nothing planned except enjoying a smoke this is a winner. For about $100 a box ($75 Cbid special in my case) you can't go wrong. Based on the other 2 I had previously it does mellow out a bit with age but still retains everything you look for in a good maduro.
Flames, comments or other opinions welcome
