Last night at our weekly mini-herf (which is actually expanding quite rapidly) I got a great gift from a great BOTL; cigardawg.
Knowing how much I loved the first Master Blends and how much I was looking forward to the new release, he gave me his only sample from RTDA.
The robusto came in special packaging; a wooden coffin that lifted the head of the cigar when the lid was lifted.
This years release has a maduro wrapper on it and it really changed the make-up of this cigar! So here is a mini review/first impressions...
The cigar was a rock; it was very solid!! It was slightly box pressed and very firm. The prelight draw was a bit tight, but it opened up once lit.
I have to say that the first thing I thought of once I started smoking, was "Padron 1964 Maduro". It had the same taste profile IMO. and since they are both Nic. puros, it makes a little sense I guess. It has a smooth sweet quality to it with a tiny bit of underlying earthy flavor.
The flavor was pretty consistant throughout. I got a little more earthy tones towards the middle of the smoke. During the final 1/3 of the smoke, the quality tailed off a little; burn was a bit uneven and the flavor became mottled.
One of the more impressive things was that this little robusto smoked for about an hour and a half or more!
Overall it was a very very nice smoke!! Thanks Dawg!!! I think with a little age these will be fabulous!
