Anyone?

This stuff is less than $8 a fifth. I have enjoyed more than my share of a bottle this evening and have just fired up an '01 Boli Royal Corona. What a great combination.

Anyone had the Old Crow. I understand that Jim Beam now distills the stuff. Any info?

Never heard of it Bruddah Steve but glad yer enjoying it! Are you sure it's not just some colored moonshine? LMAO!

Aloha,

Wade

Be very careful Wade. You may just find yourself with a bottle. :sneaky:

OMG! I may finally get to taste some "White Lightnigh"... LOL!

Some info on Old Crow is here. One of the better buys in Bourbon if you are looking for volume. I don't think I've had any in at least a decade. I believe that it the 100 proof "Bottled in Bond" version is 7 yeas old.

Thanks. I had already read that after coming home with the bottle. I noticed somewhere else that the Old Crow was 100 proof. THe bottle I have is 80 proof and it isn't 7 years old. THe label on the back of the bottle says "Aged for a full 3 years in new, charred white oak barrels." I didn't see the 100 prooff version and wasn't aware that there was one.

I would be interested in trying the 7yo if I can find it.

This is the best <$8/750ml I have had.

What does "Bottled in Bond Version" mean?

This is the bottle I have. 80 proof.

Just found this at straightbourbon.com

Interesting.

My father-in-law has been a fan of Old Crow Bourbon for years. Now I drink Old Crow. Yet it is very rarely mentioned anywhere. How do bourbon fans rate Old Crow?. Why is it such a secret?. I know it's a Jim Beam product. What's the deal here?

Old Crow is a very venerable name. Most authorities credit Dr. James Crow with the development of what we recognize today as bourbon whiskey. Old Crow was also a top seller, competing with Jim Beam for #1 bourbon through most of the middle decades of this century. When bourbon sales started to tumble, Old Crow suffered more than most. Jim Beam absorbed National Distillers, owner of Old Crow, in 1987 and immediately closed the distillery (they still use the warehouses). The Old Crow you buy today is essentially the same whiskey as Jim Beam White Label, or maybe not even quite that good. Beam considers it a "bottom shelf" brand. They don't give it much support and they certainly don't put their best whiskey in the bottles.

The official definition of Bottled in Bond:

Bottled in Bond, U.S. (of a straight whiskey or brandy) bottled at 100 proof after aging at least four years and being stored untaxed under government supervision until removed by the manufacturer for market.
