I put up a thread about it a while ago on how to save some of my smokes. The hydrometer was bad, and I dried a lot of them out. I'm ready to get my humidor back in working order especially because I have a shipment of smokes coming in from a newbie trade.

So, toss the hydrometer, get a new one, what kind?
Also, I was always taught distilled water for a humidor, but now I understand they have better gel packs? Do I have to prep the spanish cedar lining at all? Anything I'm missing?

I've been using this one from cuban crafters...

Unfortunately I see that they are out of stock. Might want to check with them about availability. It salt tested at 74%, so I feel comfortable with it's accuracy... and you can't beat the price!

I will say that despite the positive feedback I read on the Radio Shack models, I bought one and it was off by 5% on the salt test. I took it back.

JMO though.

Check out just about any of the larger internet cigar retailers, they will have a section on how to prep your humidor. Or use the search, there have been several post about it since I joined. I use the square Hydrometer from Heartfelt, and get it with the calibration pack.

But to answer your question, yes, you will need to prep the cedar in the humi before you put your smokes in there. This takes anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks.

Good luck
