Nooobie here who just got his first humidor

Helllllo everyone

Glad I found this forum, looks like an awesome place that I will spend alot of time while im at work.

So I just got my first 150ct humidor. I am pumped, for months I have been using carrying case humidors.

So last night I put a shot glass of distilled water in the bottom and loaded up the humidifier with distilled water as well. At that time the analog hygrometer read 35%.
It has now been 16 hours and it reads 46%.

I had some questions I was wondering if you could help me out with:

1) Would adding another humifier help reach the 70% I want to reach and keep it there?

2) I read alot of people talking about "beads" is that the same thing as crystals? If so how do they work?

Any other tips and help you can give me will be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

1) Introduce yourself, nuff said about that

2) Your humidor needs about a week to thoroughly season. Sixteen hours isn't near enough time to get it to the level you need it.

3) Beads are similar to silica beads found in new pairs of shoes. These types of beads however, soak AND release humidity. They come in different RH% levels to fit your liking. Try out Heartfelt Industries for beads. They offer a great product coupled with amazing customer service.

Keep the shot glass in there until the humdior reads whatever humidity level you prefer. You may need to refill the shot glass as the water is being absorbed. In my opinion, most humidors don't come with a humidifier sufficient enough for the size; don't go buying another humidifier just yet, though, try out your current setup and see how it holds. Be sure that your analog is reading accurately, if not, it'll throw you for a loop...

I am very new to the cigar community, but when I did my research on humidors I read that a home made humidor such as an 'igloodor', was better than buying a cheap humidor. There are A LOT of things that go in to making a humidor functional. Like I said I am VERY new to all of this, but I went the 'Igloodor' route until I can come off the money for a good, quality, humidor. If your humidor doesnt quite cut it, here is the link I used for making my own. Its very affordable to make. I hope I helped.
