I smoked a Royale Havana last weekend, I have no idea what it is or where it's from...like 80% of what is in my humi. I wanted to write a review of it, which would have been my first ever, but I woke up the next morning with a fever that lasted 2 days. And so now I can't completely remember my experience.

Anyway, I do recall that halfway through the stick, the tar buildup was rather thick, and my draw had become much tighter. Is there a solution to this? I remember the initial draw on this thing was great, which really gave me confidence in my humidor that I've almost ran through the wood chipper. ???

edit: Had to do a spell/gramar check for cc. I think I got all of them.
edit again: fixed

Was the cigar a figurado (torpedo, pyramid, etc.)? If so, you might have not cut enough off the end. Sometimes, if there is a small opening, a cigar will begin to build up tar. I have only had it happen to me on figurados. Typically, the cigar already had a tight draw. Next time, try cutting a little more off. If it was a parejo (straight sided cigar), I'm afraid I have no experience...lucky I guess.

I have been unable to find a pattern other than the one above. It has not seemed to be a function of humidity, strength of cigar, etc. If anyone has a pattern, please share...would love to learn on this one.

Hope this helps.

Purging a Cigar

After about halfway through, right when you ash the cigar again, put the cigar foot near your lighter flame (not into the flame) and gently blow through it, and watch as the flame leaps out of the cigar (don't burn your eyebrows). Rotate cigar while still blowing through it, until the flame dies out. You have succesfully incinerated the tar and chemical buildup and your cigar will taste less harsh now.

Now...this will show just how green I am.

Foot of the cigar...is the end that is already lit obviously right?

Please don't laugh :0

I had to ask, mostly because the tar builds up on the other end...and back in my college days...I've experienced "shotgunning", some may know what it is.

Since you mentioned "build-up", is shotgunning similar to a Dirty Sanchez? :whistling:

I think its more of a mix between a Hot Carl and a Baltimore Steamer

Dude, you got me laughing my ass off here!

I did a search on the Boston Steamer, and found a website that describes all sorts of strange defication adventures! I found the "upperdecker" to be quite hilarious, but could not imagine someone actually doing this!
