After reading a review of a CAO Italia Piazza in Cigar Afficionado, I picked one up to give it a try. Sadly, I was really let down by the stick. It looked beautiful, but the draw was poor and the taste described by CA were just not present. Not ready to give up on CAO (I always read so many good things about them), I picked up a Criollo conquistador. Right from the beginning, I should have picked up something different, because I typically favor maduro wrappers. The draw was again awkward, but the lack of taste was devastating. There were some slight hints of spice and leather, but the overall sensation was dull.

Enter the Cx2 Belicoso. I just could not resist giving them a third shot, especially after seeing this one. Great size, great shape, and the wrapper was like baker's chocolate. Initially, the draw was awkward (what is it with the CAOs, me, and bad draws!?!), but after about an inch down, the draw was dead on. The aroma was perfect (my wife commented on nice it smelled!), and taste was full and flavorful. I highly recommend this cigar for those that love dark wrappers and medium-full bodied smoke.

The best part of the experience for me was the realization of not judging an entire company based on one or two of its lines. I had an unenjoyable H. Uppman vintage cameroon that turned me off of that company, so perhaps I will head back to them and give them a second try.

Good for you for not giving up on CAO and writing the review. I really enjoyed the CAO Brazilia GOL! that arrived in my last shipment of smokes.

I like the CAO Brazilia line also. My first CAO was a Criollo Pato. I won a 5'er off of CBid. I didn't like the firat one I had at all; I don't remember what was wrong with it. But then I had a couple more and man were they good. I guess the moral of the story is I better smoke more cigars to get a better opinion. Good news for me; bad news for my bank account. :whistling:

It has always been my opinion that you should smoke at least 3-4 cigars from any given line before passing judgment. Remember these are rolled by hand, mistakes can happen. Plus they change hands a lot and things can happen in shipping. All in all it is good to smoke a few befor eyou decide.

Also another vote for the brazilia, great smoke. Of course I also really enjoy the Criollo when a nice mild smoke is in order.

If it doesn't work out you can send those cameroons to me

I like the Italia Ciaos myself.

Brazilia Anaconda is yummy if you got over an hour.

The old Black Label were cool too.

I got a 5'er of these a while back and had one as soon as they came in and didnt like them at all. Grabbed one a few weeks ago and it was wonderful. Dont know if it was the time in the humidor or the mood but it really hit me the right way.

I agree that you cant just try one and make a decision. I believe there is really something to be said about time in the humidor.

Nice review. There isn't anything by CAO that I've tried that I didn't like. I'm not crazy about the Blacks but I don't dislike them. Brazilias are my favorites.
