I've been lingering around here for a few days, checking out humidor/coolidor/tupperdor posts. My old humidor does nothing but frustrate me anymore. The only things I haven't tried for keeping the RH up is the Oasis XL and those "magic beads" I've been reading about. Since I've never had an inventory of more than 30-40 cigars (and don't age them), the Oasis would be overkill in my little humi. The beads however... we'll get to that in a bit.

After all the posts I read about how affordable and easy it was to build/maintain a coolidor, I decided to give it a go. I wasn't interested in a big unit though. I know... "build one bigger than you'll need." Really though, I'm saving for a wedding in a few months, and with a huge cooler, I would just feel the need to fill it (spending money that I don't have). So I checked out Wally-World and found this little igloo for under $10. Then on the way home I stopped at my local cigar shop to pick up a few boxes. He didn't have much of a selection, but they were free. These were for my shelf, and to line the humi. I'm going to replace the punch shelf with a plain spanish cedar one when I get another box. I have an old humidifier (oasis foam?) and I'm thinking of replacing the insides with beads. It's a good size rectangle one (4.5"X6") and I imagine it should hold enough beads. For right now I'll use the old foamy and this little jar of humi 70 I found. Anyways, check out the picks below, and give me your thoughts.

And please don't blast me for my weak cigar showing. I'm hoping to order a box of JDN Gran Consuls soon. I'm just trying to put aside the $80! If anybody knows of a smoke that compares for less... please let me know.

I think I might need to send you something to help fill that up. :whistling:

edit: Oh yeah, you should do an introduction.

edit #2: Just saw your handle, GO BLUE!!

Welcome bro, sounds like you are venturing down a WONDERFUL road. My suggestion would be first to fill out your profile with info that you'd like to share, post an introduction so that we can get to know you. Then get yourself a newb sampler and start with that, it will be a better deal than ANYTHING a retail outlet can provide.

Welcome to the community.

I want to say it, I want to say it...!

Ok...

Its tooooo small! :D

I knew it wouldn't be long before I was told! It may be too small for you... but it'll get me through 'til I get married, graduate, buy a house, move... next year maybe I'll go bigger. This is good practice.

I must say... You people are PROFESSIONALS!

I hope to go pro soon... you know... leave the college game behind.

Oh, it'll get filled faster than you think, and you'll be saying damn those CP brothers...

Welcome to CP! And yeah, it's too small... :whistling:

Very nice, but way too small. I started with a 100 count humi - then a 300 count humi - then a 125 qt. cooler. They are all filled.

My name is Rob, and I am a cigaraholic. :sign:

Nice! I have one almost identical. You will need to watch for the seal. My "lid"/door never stays completely shut; it still seals, but tends to want to creep open. Not sure if it is just with mine or others like it too. I simply have a routine of when I get ready for work in the morning, I simply nudge it a bit and all is well! I will post some pics:

For some reason the first picture won't rotate, it is correct on the website, just will not show up here. Anyway. . . This is what i'm talking about. Enjoy!

Good start, and way to use the search!

Welcome...and it's too small. I went from 150 count humi to 125 quart cooler in 2 months. They are both full!

Rob

That's a nice setup Garrett.

If you can fight the urge to fill it up completely, and it sounds as though you can and will, I think it will do well for you.

I bought a 54 quart Igloo that had slots like yours. Also like yours I turned mine up on the end and used it like a refrigerator. I bought wire-mesh cookie cooling racks and trimmed them to fit the slots. They made great shelves.

The down side to a coolerdor is that they are usually air tight. You have to remember to open them every so often to allow an exchange of air to happen.

By the way...Welcome to Cigar Pass!

Definitely on the smaller side. But these things have a tendency to get filled up so might be good for your budget although it won't stop you from getting another coolerdor shortly.

Welcome to CP!

It won't take all that long until you've outgrown that cooler, but it's fantastic practice for when you move up to a larger one. I remember back in the day when I used to breathe heavy into a ziplock bag to humidify the 3 or 4 sticks I had. Things are a little different now... sort of ???

I saw once his addy's in his profile, we force him to get a bigger cooler! :whistling:

Great start and looks good.

BTW, starting small is a right of passage around here. Every member here has been there done that. You're in good company.
