I have a dumb question. I currently store my desktop humidor in the basement. We have a problem with the basement flooding in the spring/summer. My wife is worried about the water/mold damage that is being done and wants to buy a dehumidifior to help suck out the moisture in the air when flooding occurs. My question is: how bad will that be for my humidor? Am I okay as long as the seal is good or do I need to find a new place to store my smokes?

I have a small dehumidifier in my office where I keep my humi's. It doesn't seem to make a difference. If your basement is that moist, I am not sure you want to be keeping them down there anyway. Better safe than sorry.

i would be more worried about mold or mildue on the outside of the humidor..... if it floods down there I would move it. Also, if it is too moist down stairs wouldn't that eventually penetrate the wood on the humidor..... also if you use a dehumidifier and suck out the moisture, wouldn't you suck out moisture of the wood

I would be worried about warping.

If you are getting flooding in your basement you dont want to take a chance with that much moisture aroung your cigars. It is the same mind set as if the air is to dry when you open your humi anll the humidity will escape. In your case every time you open your humi you recieve extra moisture. To much moisture can destroy your cigars. Easy solution put them on another level of the house. Good luck

Thanks for the help everyone!! It looks like my best plan is to move the cigars to another place in the house.
