Hello,

I am in the market for my first humidor and have been eyeballing one on E-Bay for the past few days and I'm hesitant to get it because it's so inexpensive.

The link is HERE.

Any advice? Seems too good of a deal to be true.

Thanks!

Shipping is $41.00
that doesn't sound inexpensive to me

Yeah, I figured that was the catch...but $60 for a 300 cigar humidor is still pretty good. There's gotta be something to it...i just can't seem to figure it out. I guess if I get it and it's a POS, I'm only out $60.

I despise ebay sellers who advertise an item at a ridiculously low price, then gouge the sh!t out of you on shipping. $40.50 flat rate?? I would steer you away from that humidor for only that reason.

anyway, welcome to CP, you should go to the intorducion threads and tell us a bit about yourself!

Dennis~

Just depends on how much $60 means to you. If it turns out to be damaged/warped/etc and you can shrug your shoulders at a loss of $60, I'd say go for it. If not, steer clear (b/c $40 in shipping is pretty shady).

with shipping and the opening price, he'll make money. These are relatively low quality boxes coming out of Asia (presumably). They aren't bad humis, but I wouldn't touch fleabay unless you're an experienced buyer there.

Never had a humi with drawers, but I don't feel like they would seal as well as a single lid or door. I'd like to have one of those with several drawers behind a single glass door.

You'd probably be better off with a shoe box lined with some cedar. I, for some reason, am obsessed with checking on ebay almost daily for humidors. Its a true sickness, as all I see is the their same old, same old crap time after time. That or you can buy the $9K Fuente humi that has been on there for months. Go fill up your gas tank with that $40.00 shipping fee, drive to a local shop or where ever and get to see what you are actually purchasing.

Hey bro, I personally don't like buying hummies that I can't personally see before I purchase them. They are going to hold your sticks and you want to make sure it is what you want. If it was from a reputable (spl) dealer I would say maybe, but like I said I like to buy them in person. Just my .02$

I was actually checking out eBay for a while, too, back when I was on the market for a humidor.

Here are a couple things to take into account about these sellers' humidors

1) Shipping, wtf.

2) These humidors are not 100% lined with spanish cedar
In order to provide savings for our customers and get the same value, portions of our humidor interior are made of cedar wood. Once the humidor is closed everything inside is sealed. The cedar smell will remain in the box giving positive effect on the flavor of your cigars. Therefore there is no need to make the inside of the humidor completely of cedar. If you research cigar humidors, there is no 100% cedar humidor.
I believe most of the FOG's on CP will say that you need 100% cedar. That's what a number of them told me. (Here's my topic on the exact same issue.... http://www.cigarpass.com/forums/index.php?...c=43253&hl= )

But if you want to, I guess it's your money. :)
I ended up getting an imperfect from CheapHumidors. Mine was a bit banged up (but works perfectly fine), but many others have said theirs is barely scratched.

Hi Matt

I looked at the auction. Looks like a nice box to store your wristwatches or pocketknife collection. I worry it wouldn't hold humidity, especially in the winter becuase of the cheapo construction. Keep your expensive cigars somewhere else.

Also look at some of the sellers feedback :(

"seller was an ass and i wont do bussiness with them at all go somewhere else"
"the seller ships fake products and not the real thing beware of this fake ebayer"
"Iive bought several humidors from this seller the last few have been damaged."
"Item was used, dirty, parts missing ,and damaged."
"impossible to get a hold of, item was not working has yet to refund to my credit"

I looked at this box before I got mine. I asked a question and there was never a response. Personally I don't buy from anyone who doesn't respond. I think most of these humis are coming from Quality Imports, who in turn is the distributor to a lot of the humi dealers on the net.

If this is your price range then keep perspective of what you get for the money. A big box cheap may well just be a cheap big box.

If I upgrade in the future, I'm seriously considering building my own with wood I select and finish myself. Maybe even veneer some exotic wood on the outside.

I got my humidor off eBay. It has been working great, holds about 100 cigars. I paid a little over 100 for it, I believe. It is 100% Spanish cedar and easily maintains 65-70% with either a few humipillows or the build in sponge-type humidifcation device... I did some searching in B&Ms to compare humidors online to the ones they had. I found an exact match at a B&M and on eBay, and bought that one. Saved myself about 70 bucks. It's been working for about a year now -- no complaints at all.
