Greetings everyone. This is my first post, but I have been reading alot over the past few days and since I got a few cigars for Christmas I need some advice....

I am looking for advice as to the best way to store about 15 cigars until I can afford a decent humidor. Also, any recommendations on a good starter humidor that would hold roughly 50 to 100 smokes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and I hope everyone is having a great holiday!

I agree with these guys...the most inexpensive way is a tupperdor and a great way that is a no brainer for keeping them regulated is to use the humi-care pillows or a similar type device. Just make sure you use distilled water in whatever device you use unless you are using beads or gel.

Welcome to the club-enjoy your sticks!

I agree with Daniel. You start with 15, and I got looking yesterday and I'm up over 150; and the kids gave me $150 to get some fav's. There are even some brothers here that build humidors. Check it out.

Welcome from Texas and enjoy and learn.

No need to go beyond a plastic humidor unless you really want a pretty wooden box. You just need something that seals well, so that's why coolers and tupperware type containers work perfectly fine. I keep everything in a large 20-cup or so size Lock'n'Lock plastic container with some beads. Been using that for the last couple of years and love it. Got a large tube of beads in there and the seal is great, so I only add water every other month or so.

I personally like the pretty box sitting on the dresser! But now that I have that I will go for a nice tupperdor once my pretty box is all filled up.

Either way you decide to go, git what works for you. Besides, what is inside is the most important.

As John mentioned, beads are about the best humidification device out there without spending considerably more money. Here's a couple links where beads can be purchased:

I thought about buying something like that at first. Man, I'm glad I didn't. I'm now busting at the seams with a 60qt cooler and looking to upgrade.

In my opinion there are 4-5 humidor phases when one starts the cigar hobby:

1: Newbie -> Tupperdor or small cooler w/ beads or water pillows. Good for 0 to 20 or so cigars. I used a setup like this for about a month.

2: Semi noob to average smoker -> Medium to large cooler with humidification beads. Good for 5 to 30 or so boxes depending on the size.

3: Seasoned smokers and perfectionists -> Converted Vinotemp or humidor furniture such as an end table or cabinet with beads or active humidification. Good for anywhere from 20 to over 100 boxes.

4: Retailers, professional smokers and major perfectionists -> Walk-in humidors with lights, active humidification, sensors and other sorts of bling. Good for hundreds of boxes.

I'm looking to upgrade to #3 now.

P.S. Some people stay at level 2 and simply upgrade by adding additional coolers and beads.
