I recently purchased a lucky 7 humidor. Wish I would have joined the forum first I probably would have bought something different but it seems well built. I read how to season the humidor but my question is I also bought an electronic humidifier. Should I just fill it with distilled water and let it run for a few days to season it or should I season with the shot glass. Thanks for your help.

I think your thread got overlooked with all the secret santa buzz. I'd say you could do both humidifier and shot glass if you like. I imagine it would only expedite the process. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for responding. I ended up just hooking the humidifier up and deciding to let it run. I have a few days till the recent smokes I order get here anyway. I did not put a show glass in but I think with the humidifier just running in 4 days or so I should be good.

Yes you should be fine, just check before you add the sticks. You don't want the Humidor to pull out the moisture from your cigars. Be patient. Good luck.

Thanks man. Have any idea how long I should wait? Be it 3 days 5?

Till your constant at your desired percent. Every box is different, mine took 9 days and its a 150 count

Thanks man. One more thing. How do I know when it's stabilized? Open and read the hygrometer once a day at the same time?

Give it a week, if not two, for the wood to soak up as much moisture as it wants. The end result should be your box maintaining a constant humidity (whatever you set it at) and not using "too much" distilled water. It's hard to define "too much" when you don't have a baseline, though. You should see it using a noticeable amount of distilled water at first, as the wood soaks the humidity in, and then it'll taper off. Assuming you have a well sealed humidor.

There's a little science to it, but it's really about patience. :)

Give it about a week and wait about 2 days to see if it is keeping stable, more or less. Good luck.

You may also want to rotate your sticks until the walls have absorbed moisture to avoid the moisture being pulled out of your cigars. I had that happen on a desktop I set up once in my office that I did not properly season and threw the cigars into, dried just one side of the cigars that were touching the walls and didn't notice they were split.
