It is about 2245 (10:45) on New Year's Eve and I am at home on West Point setting to watch the ball go down at Times Square on TV with my family.
I am lighting up a Dominican Montecristo to represent the old year. It is a white label my kids (13 of them) got for my Birthday. It is a great cigar. I enjoy for special occassions like this. I will enjoy it before 2007 comes in. After the New Year comes in, I will light up a Cuban Montecristo Edmundo, another great cigar. I light it up in the hope that the Embargo ends and soon we all will be able to smoke Cubans in the near future.
My humble opinion is that once the embargo drops, there will be a wild rush to by Cubans, but after awhile it will settle down when people remember that the smokes coming out of DR, NI, HO, etc are dammn some fine smokes. I suspect also that all these blends will start to experiment with Cuban leaf mixtures, but that they will not go away. T
he stuff that Rocky Patel, Litto Gomez, etc, make stand the test, I believe, even against the good Cubans. When I was Iraq, I had the opportunity to smoke a variety of Cubans and I have to say that there is some real garbage out there. But time will tell and this will not be the first time I have been wrong in my life. Ask my kids!!!
Let me wish you all a Happy New Year!!! May we all find that elusive cigar that we are all looking for this year. OR maybe not. If we find it, we won't have all the fun in coming accross those wonderful surprizes and remarkable duds!!! G-d bless and have a good one!!
