I tried CP on my iPad tonight and there seem to be a few issues. I can't get to the full editor...it stays in the quick reply version even after hitting the full version button. Also, you can't adjust the options on the right side of the Forum screen....like expand to see all the birthdays or even X them out...the Xs aren't there.

A few minor things are that what usually is on the top of the screen shows up on the left side. Also, whenever a new screen loads, the print is huge and sometimes stays that way until you do the squeezy thing to minimize it.

Previously it ran just like the IE/Firefox version.

Anyone else experience this? Is there something I'm doing wrong in the settings?

Thanks

Gary, although I am replying to this on our desktop Mac, I do use an iPad to view threads on some days. The important fact I remember about iPads are that they are more of a "viewing" device as opposed to a full computer. Example, iPads can be used with a bluetooth keyboard, but no mouse. (guys can jailbreak the iPad to use one, but why? Takes away from what the iPad was designed for.) I'm no expert, but I do like futting around with my gadgets.

I tried CP on my iPad tonight and there seem to be a few issues. I can't get to the full editor...it stays in the quick reply version even after hitting the full version button. This "newer" version does allow iPad users to reply using the onscreen keyboard or bluetooth keyboard without having to switch to the mobile version like before. Even though the emoticons box is checked, they never do appear for us to insert them for added oomph. The basic feature of just replying via type is the only thing I can do. It makes for a more bland reply, but again, iPads were designed for viewing.

Also, you can't adjust the options on the right side of the Forum screen....like expand to see all the birthdays or even X them out...the Xs aren't there. They are there, just that in the smaller iPad screen, it is invisible. Actually, there is a faint trace of the same little "minimize, maximize" block, just go to the far right edge of your screen and try tapping around there. I did it on my iPad while typing this just to make sure I can go back and forth to make the birthdays appear and disappear.

A few minor things are that what usually is on the top of the screen shows up on the left side. Not sure what you are referring to, I did a side by side with the desktop and the iPad, and the only thing I can see NOT in the iPads screen is the blue border of the forum screen, which is not a deal killer. Can you explain more?

Also, whenever a new screen loads, the print is huge and sometimes stays that way until you do the squeezy thing to minimize it. I too, experience that HUGE ASS screen shot of the CP avatar and a portion of the forum home screen, but in a second or so, it reverts to the regular ip.Board version or "full" version that has the avatars and miscellaneous clickable parts of the home screen. So far, I haven't had to pinch and squeeze at all and I have used the iPad at home, at the station, and even on the road if I use my cell phone as a mobile hotspot. I checked Safari settings on the iPad and I can't find any "setting" that makes any webpage do that, just CP. I just grab a sip of whatever I'm drinking and boom, the home page is ready.

Previously it ran just like the IE/Firefox version. My iPad too, but I couldn't type any replies using the ip.Board version, I would have to scroll down and switch to the mobile version just to interact with anyone. I don't necessarily care for the mobile version, but it was a means to an end. If I use my DroidX, I can reply in any setting, full or mobile.

Anyone else experience this? Is there something I'm doing wrong in the settings?

Thanks

Hope this helps, I wouldn't want you to get pissed at technology and end up using your iPad as a big coffee coaster. :sign:

Thanks for the reply Dave. I actually wrote the above post on it last night. After I wrote it, I went in and cleared out the cookies and cache. The birthdays showed up on a dated/planner screen and underneath the big date number was the birthday list. On the home screen, the items on the left side did reappear on the top of the screen. I was laughing before I wrote this because last night I was poking & tapping like crazy on the right side to find the Xs ...so I went and tapped away again this morning and still can't find them! LOL. I think a lot of iPad owners do just that and in reality we're just jerkin' around as Steve Jobs is laughing at us!

The large print on switching to a new screen also stopped staying huge also once I cleared the browser. Weird that you said that you never had the emoticons and the ability to add bold print, insert pics & links, etc. before...I always had them in the old CP skin....when I said it looked exactly like the Windows based format, I wasn't kidding. Maybe Rod can expand on that. I did try the Mobile skin last night and found it too rudimentary considering I had all the features previously.

I get the whole tablet thing and the fact it's not a PC, I usually use it in my cigar room or the Family room while watching TV...it's great to look up stats when watching sports and general questions that come up when we are watching something. Coffee on the front porch, smoking a cigar and checking emails in the early morning is very cool too!

Thanks for the help bro, I'll keep tapping around and see what I find!!!

Doc...no card to surrender. I have fought that envelope for 6 1/2 years every time it shows up in my mailbox. How the f*ck did they know I was turning 50, six month prior to my 50th birthday?...and why are they so insistent I join by sending me cards 2 to 3 times a month since? They even found me when I moved last year!...how the f*ck did they know that?

I don't know man...AARP is like 'Old People' Big Brother!

Glad to hear you have most of your problems solved Gary, keep trying to look for the little invisible button for the birthdays. As for the emoticons, I wish they were usable in this version of CP, but overall it's a nice change.

As for the AARP card, I just had one mailed to me last month and I'm only 46?????!!!!! WTF?? I finally got the military to stop sending me enlistment postcards and now this. I didn't even have a chance to have a midlife crisis yet, geez. LOL. (insert yellow emoticon here).

<edit, okay I just learned that if I put 3 or mroe question marks in my type, it turns into one of the emoticons. Wonder how I can learn to put all of them in via typing in characters? >

I hear ya Dave...damn AARP, they're like the Gray Panthers!

As for the emoticons...if you ever looked at them when we would quote someone who used them in the old skin, we'd have seen the typed version of them all the time...: and a ) make a :)

I just noticed on the iPad this morning...if you go into someone's profile and hit the 'send me a message' bar...it gets all squirrely and no screen to send a message comes up....just a few panels overlap the screen. Check it out.

This new skin is definately not Apple friendly from an iPad standpoint. I wonder how it is in Safari?

Not sure if it is IPad related, but I just noticed that my avatar has changed.
I tried to fix it it, ut when I select the use custom picture raido button, it never let's me choose a new pic.

Which avatar are you seeing? For yours, I see you in your battle rattle in front of a HMMWV.

Some weird things going on with avatars. I changed mine the other day and it never showed up. Just now, I right-clicked on my avatar and chose "view image". The old avatar was shown, but when I refreshed the page (control-r), the new avatar I uploaded the other day showed up. So there's some weird caching going on, not sure if it's client-driven or something set by the server in the headers, though. ???

Yeah, me in my gear. Used to be my home brew logo. If thewifeever pushes back from the iMac I will see if I can fix it from there

I know exactly what you are referring to Gary, I was seeing those overlapping panels last night while playing with a PM because there are no more little icons under a members name when they post on a thread.

I did find the answer that does work, scroll to the top of the screen and next to your sign in name will be 2 icons, an envelope and a person. The first is for messaging and the other is for notifications. Click on the envelope icon and it will load the PM sequence in the middle of your iPad screen. The newest thing I've learned is we need to now remember how to spell the persons name we want to PM, ie. 4cb should start the software bringing up suggestions of members starting with the number 4 to choose from. The rest is just as we remembered it.

It works, I tested it with John/Investandprosper and he got my PM fine.
