New Tupperdor

I recently purchased a "snapware" 4.3L container and plan on filling it somewhat in the upcoming future. Being a new smoker, I have been lurking around here for a couple of days and almost have my tupperdor figured out. I just need to get humidifier and a hygrometer (radio shack). I recently read a post about someone lining a tupperdor with spanish cedar from old boxes but ended up taking it out because it was soaking up too much water. My question is what material would you guys use to make dividers? It seems as though the wood would soak water as would cardboard. I was thinking of plexi-glass. Any suggestions, comments, or pictures of what you have done would be helpful. Thanks. John

Hey welcome to Cigar Pass

The way I understand it spanish cedar absorbs and releases at 70% , so after you season the cedar it would help control the humidity at the proper level

anyway welcome aboard again and you should fill out your profile and introduce
yourself in the lobby

Randy :D

Jjust make sure you season the wood before you put the smokes in. This is pretty much standard procedure for any humidor. With a tuppordor or coolidor the wood is just separate.

rknicker, is that Hart in your lil picture? Good to see another michigan fan in here

Don't waste your time "lining" it, just use a few wooden cigar boxes to store your cigars in. They'll hold all the humidity you'll need.

There are lots more where he came from:
The Beast
Camaroon4me

for starters ;)

maybe I should of gotten a larger container in order to fit a coupe of cigar boxes in it. I think I overthought this one.

NP, if your tupperware is that small, just use some broken up pieces of old cigar boxes as you mentioned. The fact that they soak up water is a GOOD thing ;)

A very inexpensive way is to buy a cooler and get some of these beads Don't bother with the fancy units, just buy the beads themselves and put them in pantyhose. Acutally, I just leave the beads loose in a plastic containter. I'm sure whenever I finally have my first "spill" I'll smarten up and put them in pantyhose :p but so far, my clumsiness hasn't gotten the best of me yet.

Coolers are on sale now at Wally World and other "big box" stores since they're kinda out of season at the moment :D

Since buying the container recently (today), I may wait on purchasing a cooler and see how this thing does for now. For a suggestion, you should try using an old plastic chew case (kodiak, grizzly, copenhagan). If you get an all plastic one, you can drill or cut holes into the lid. No worry about spillages then. If you dont know anyone who chews or you dont chew yourself, try a "jerky stuff" container. Its shredded beef jerkey and can be found at most 7-11's. John

There ya go  great idea!! A half pound of beads will be enough for quite a few of those little units (maybe five or so).

What are the specific advantages to Climaxx's media beads vs a regular ol' creedo (humidifier) that I could get from the corner tabacco shop?

You never (well, almost) need to add water or worry about adjusting the vents. the beads are some combo of 'stuff' that stabilize the air to 65 or 70 % rh depending on which you buy. search the db for climmax. There are a number of threads about them here. They're worth the $20 or whatever it is now. And we get a discount. And if you dont buy them you're a commie.

No, it isn't Hart, it's an older picture. I think maybe it's Perry.

Would the 70% media be best for a nonaging tupperdor that would hold about 25-50 cigars?

Depends who you ask. I use 70, I think cc uses 65, dunno about anyone else. Some people say using 65 cuts down on draw problems. I can see the rationale, but I have no experience with it. 70 always seemed like the best idea to me. I can always leave a smoke out for a bit before I smoke it if I know it's one that is more likely to have draw issues.
