Since this is the first time I've posted a group review on Cigar Pass Let me give you a little back ground on the review format
For the last seven years The Party Source has given Cincinnati/ N. Kentucky cigar smokers a unique forum that has become almost folk lore to cigar enthusiasts coast to coast. A Weekly Cigar Tasting! An unheard of ritual were an average of 150 loyal cigar smokers gather together every Tuesday to smoke, talk, share, learn and feed there passion for premium cigars. I've been going now for 5 years, and this has become my favorite night of the week.
In that spirit, I decided it would be cool if we could tap some of that experiance and knowledge and review one of the cigars the Party Source provided each week to help expand your cigar horizons and give you insight to cigars that fit your taste profile and otherwise might have been over looked. This is the First of our Cigar Tasting Reviews, and what better way to launch it then with a brand new cigar, The Rocky Patel Edge SUMATRA.
Enjoy,
Paul Hight/ PabloCruze
Using a sophisticated method of selection, (hey man, do you want to review the Edge Sumatra?) 20 reviewers were given the chance to smoke and share there impressions of the RP Edge Sumatra. Using a 1 to 10 scale with 1 being poor and 10 superior this is how they rated the cigar. The review is the average score of our 20 reviewers, and some of those impressions.
ROCKY PATEL EDGE SUMATRA
AESTHETICS 9.1
Everyone liked the Looks of this Edge giving it high marks for it's dark,
oily,wrapper and flawless cap.
REVIEW COMMENTS
> Smoother then the maduro, even seams, solid feel.
> A nice silky sheen. There a bit of grit to the touch.
> Coffee brown with brownish yellow highlights from the oil.
> Reminds me of how the Edge Corojo looked 2 years ago.
> Oily, gritty, dark, toothy. A very pretty cigar.
> A little bumpy and uneven.
CONSTRUCTION 8.5
This would have been a higher over all score getting great marks on draw, burn, roll and ash. A bit of a drop as some of our more diligent reviewers
pulled some large stems from the foot of the cigars.
REVIEW COMMENTS
> Dense and tight wrap, solid feel.
> Well rolled, burns even, smokes cool.
> No soft spots, draw was tight.
> Dense, feels good in the hand, holds ash well.
> Good weight, draws like a dream.
> Some soft spots but no effect on draw or burn.
> Smoked medium to cool.
FLAVOR AND STRENGTH 8.8
If you smoke the Edge corojo or maduro for it's full body taste, you may
be surprised that our reviewers found this Edge to be a light to medium
body cigar. Lot's of flavor without that Edge kick in the chest.
REVIEW COMMENTS
> Medium body with smooth flavorful smoke, consistent to the end.
> Floral and sweet start, a taste of residual sugar.
> Rich, earthy, nutty flavor, very mild after taste.
> Robust (harsh) beginning, balances out to a nice scotch style taste.
> Builds to a nice rich flavor, spicy.
> Medium body with a light finish.
> Flavor of nuts and dry fruit, smoked dry to bitter.
GENERAL COMMENTS AND OVERALL SCORE 8.7
Well kids, our smokers found the RP Sumatra to be an enjoyable cigar giving
it a "very good" rating. If you have never smoked an Edge, or looking for a
lighter cigar without giving up taste, this could fit the profile you're looking
for.
REVIEW COMMENTS
> Good smoke, Edge maduro is a better buy.
> Good everyday cigar. I will buy a box. Phenomenal.
> Another well made RP.
> Has distinctive Rocky Patel taste, love the flavor of the Sumatra wrapper.
> Perfect for your lighter summer drinks, compliments without over powering.
> Flavor was decent but to much work.
> Very impressive,best Edge I've smoked in a while.
> This is the next box I'll buy.
