So my humi has been at 77% for the past 2 days while seasoning . So I removed the sponge and the green humidifier and threw in the beads(joe cool cigar beads 70% loose). The next day I looked at the rh and it dropped to 64%. So today I added the sponge again this time with the beads and am going to check it out in the morning. For now it's at 74%. Am I doing anything wrong?

Also important and directly related is the temperature. What is the temp when you're reading 64%?

I'm sure there will be a little swing back and forth until the wood is fully seasoned. Once you're there, the beads will act as a buffer for any minor fluctuations.

I'd say you're doing okay. Give it a little more time. Keep checking and don't try and speed the process along by doing much more than you already are. Some choose to add a little water to the beads directly instead of adding water to environment. This could lead to cracking, but shouldn't affect performance. I like the sponge idea myself.

In the meantime... Post an intro and maybe fill out your profile. You've stumbled upon a good group here... Stick around a while.

The temp is between 70 and 74.....sorry my name is dan, started smoking cigars and understanding them only a few months ago. Bought my first humi few months ago, it was 50 count. A week later it was packed to the top and now I am on my second one which is 120 ct. Thank you for the help guys I'll keep you posted

If I read this correctly, you are still seasoning the humidor. Give it two weeks, min. Put the sponge back in. Keep it closed, and do not open it if you can help it. RH can get pretty high in a seasoning Humidor. 80-90% not uncommon. Just let the wood do it's thing and absorb the moisture. Regarding the green foam, did you add plain distilled water or a 50/50 mix of PG and water? Do that once. The PG will stabilize the humidity. See what your Hygrometer reads after the 2 or 3 weeks remove the sponge, then let it sit for 24 hrs to see what the Hygrometer reads.

It takes patience to properly season a humidor. A deep seasoning where the moisture penetrates deep enough into the wood to provide a true buffer. Do not wipe the wood with the sponge.

I finished seasoning it. The rh stayed the same for a few days and that is when I decided to put in the beads. This has been going on joe for over a week. Rite now the rh says 74 with temp saying 72. I have beads on top and bottom. I think I am going to add cigars later today.

Rh dropped down to 71 and stayed like that for a while. So I added half of my sticks...my question is .. I have some Cubans that are in a cardboard box. Should I take them out or keep them in the cardboard ??

Cubans in a cardboard box? My word... LET THEM OUT!!! They probably can't breathe!!!

All kidding aside it's up to you.

Another option for seasoning your humidor...

If you picked it up at your local B&M it is very likely the store manager/owner will be ok with you leaving your humidor at the shop in their walk in so that it may season. Make sure you ask and communicate, not just go and drop off your random humidor and leave it. Usually after a week it will be ready for you to pick up and enjoy.
