New humidor question

Hello - I just set up my new humidor - I'm not sure though, the instructions say not to wet the wood, some places say wet the wood. Either way I am going to try it out without wetting the wood - but my question is do I need to include that certain solution it says to put in the humidor unit, or can I just use plain distilled water? Also, how do I adjust the humidity to a certain RH?

I guess it doesn't matter too much, because I bought some 70% beads, wet them and put them in, but just curious if any of you have time to answer.

Thanks :)

Nothing wrong with wiping the inside down with some distilled water, not soak it, but just wipe it down.

As for the solution. I think the solution is made out of something that just evaporates slower than distilled water, so by using that your beads would stay charged for a longer period of time. But distilled water is just fine by itself.

As far as adjusting goes, you're just gonna have to keep an eye on it. If it sits just a bit lower than you want, then add a touch of water if it's a bit high, then crack your humi open for a bit. But with the beads, I doubt much fine tuning will be necessary.

Hope this was a bit helpful.

DO NOT use any PG solution or humidifier soultion on the beads, it will ruin them. The only thing to use on beads is distilled water.

Thanks guys - I was wondering more about the actual humidor unit that came with the humidor than the beads. I went ahead and put regular distilled water in it along with the beads to get things started, and it looks like it worked well (maybe a bit on the humid side - about 72% which maybe I think will come down after I add the cigars?)

Also thanks Viper for the beads - quick shipment and great service. :)

The nice thing with using distilled water if you spill some on your cigars you won't necessarly ruin them, but with PG solution, well don't know if I would smoke it.

Good point .. I had filled the humidifier device with distilled water and put that in the humidor with 70% beads and two shot glasses of water, and now I think the humidity is just right - holding at about 72% before putting the cigars in. I'm hoping after taking out the humidification device & the shot glasses & adding some cigars later today it should be about right.

Big fan of the beads. :) I'm wondering if I should have gotten 65%...
