I have just gotten done seasoning my new humi I recieved from Thomson Cigar. (got the 40 ct. humi that came with a 30 cigar sampler. all quality sticks) I could never get the analog hygrometer to measure correctly, it jumped from 50% to 90% several times. I happened to have one of those digital home humidity/thermometer with the wireless remote. I stuck it in the humi for a couple of days, and checked every couple of hours. It has stayed locked in at about 73 degrees and between 63%-66% humidity. I've searhed and googled to see if that wouyld be sufficient, and have gotten mixed reviews. I have enjoyed a couple since then and they burn wonderfully, so I figured they would be fine. What do you guys think?

Your temperature may be a little high, usually max temp of 70 is recommended. As far as humidity, this is more personal preference, anywhere from 65% to 70%, you'll get all kind of answers. If yours are smoking well don't change the humidity. I use 65% beads so mine stays at 65 % to 66 %.

Oh, and welcome to CP. :)

Hey Q,

Those numbers are fine for humidity, but for *, you're going to want to try something different. If you can, locate a cooler room or space to keep your desktop humi. There are many reasons to do this, the main one being the worry of tabaccy beetles. For now, you can read up on it by using the search function located at the top right of the forum. Simply search for "beetles" or "temperature". That should yield some helpful information on the dreaded beetle themselves, and how to prevent them, along with ways to tweak your temperature and humidity. Good luck!

Enjoy your stay here!

The one piece of advice I would give you is to salt test your hygrometer to determine how acurate it is. Do a search on here or on google, and you will find instructions on how to test that. If it is accurate and your still getting reading between 63-66 I would say you're golden. RH range anywhere from 60-70% is fine based on your personal preference. Most people shoot for 65%. If the sticks are smoking to your preference then I would say you have nothing to worry about.

you did the right thing on getting rid of the analog meter, you might salt test your digital to make sure it is on the money. my first humidor i set up to quick and it sucked the moisture out of my smokes. sounds like you are on the right track if they are smoking good

Yeah I salt tested it, and damp cloth tested it. The digital is on the money. I ordered one of the madeline digital hygrometer that looks like the analog type off ebay last night for $19.99 with free shipping. As the household temp gauge I have in there now is WAY to big. So I should be getting that in the next few days, so I'm set now. I checked it for the first time (in about the last few days) this morning, and it is still stuck at 73 deg and 63%. I think I will be just fine. I also read something last night that said if the temp is a little high then the humidity needs to be a little lower be a little lower to compensate. and vise versa. Forgot where I read it. But the Comancho I enjoyed today out of my humi was awesome, so I think its right where I need to be.

Sheds some light on the humidity query. Not too worried about beetles. Guys here have methods of dealing w/ them.
