Hey everyone great forum from what I have seen so far. .. New to the board so thank you all in advance

I am new to the cigar world and have already jumped in with both feet. New humidor and a bunch of cigars I'm good to go... I think

I purchased my first humidor on Friday, smaller one holds about 30 cigars, decent quality cost me $50. Just as the store owner told me I followed these directions...

1. Wipe down w/ distilled water all parts of humidor make sure it's damp but not soaked
2. Place hygrometer along with a Boveda 72 pack into humidor and keep closed overnight
3. Wake up next morning and I am good to go... Was told boveda pack would do everything

Here is my problem I have not gotten a reading on my hygrometer over 55... I just spent a good amount of $$$ on the cigars and don't want to ruin them. It is currently around 50 - 53... Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated... It's not a digital one, just the basic one that came with the humidor

It takes a long time to establish a humidor. Did you purchase all these cigars from the same guy who sold you the humidor? If so, he did you a severe disservice. Put the cigars into a tupperware device with the boveda pack. Then put a small dish of distilled water into the humidor. Go to a different smoke shop and purchase a digital hygrometer. Follow the directions in the device and calibrate it. Then place it into the humidor and wait for the humidity to establish. This will take TIME. When it is established place the cigars into the humidor.

Please post a proper introduction on this board. You will get more help and be more received if you follow the rules. This is a community with a tremendous wealth of knowledge. Just a couple or rules to follow and you are good to go.

Unfortunately you have been significantly misinformed. Seasoning a humidor takes at least a few days, more like a week if you want to do it right. Your humidor is made of cedar wood, which is extremely dry. Your cigars are semi-moist; think of them like damp sponges. When you place your cigars into a box of extremely dry wood, the wood is going to suck all of the moisture out of your cigars, which will dry them out and then they'll be ruined.

Read this article: http://www.cigarpass.com/cigars-101/76-how-to-season-a-humidor.html

It will help get you on the right track. Take time and season your humidor properly. In the meantime, do what ilikefishes said, and put your fresh cigars in a ziplock or tupperware along with your boveda. Keep them in good condition while your humidor is seasoned. If you are not patient and do not season your humidor correctly now, you'll never be able to maintain a stable environment. Take the time and do it right.

Also, you might reconsider where you purchase your cigars from -- this guy gave you horrible advice.

The only thing I would mention is keep that tupperware close because a lot of cigars are better with age, and if you stick around this forum long a 30 count box won't be nearly big enough.
