Hey all,

For christmas my wife bought me one of these:

Now it comes with one of these:

The issue here is that this drawer is not spanish cedar. Well maybe it is, but if so its some sort of varnished spanish cedar or something and I would rather have the real thing. Question is, where is the best place to buy spanish cedar (lowes and home depot don't carry it, lol) and what type of glue to use to put it together?

Or better yet, is there a brother here I could commision to build me such an item and how much would it cost? Would it be that much more than trying to build one or two of them myself? I say "two" because there is actually a second slot inside the humi so theoretically I could put two in there.

Any help, guidance, slaps in the face, etc etc anyone can offer on the subject is much appreciated! :)

Have you contacted the company to find out about the draw?

Are you sure it's not cedar? Are you sure it's varnished??

You should PM Humidor Minister...I believe he builds Spanish cedar cigar trays for humidors. Good luck.

Actually, I haven't contacted them but I know its varnished, because its glossy. It may be cedar, but none of the cedar I've seen in humidors have a slick glossy sheen to them, and this one does...you can feel it...its smooth like a glass finish and you can't feel the texture of the wood.

I did contact Vinotemp about the hydrometer on the front...I wish they wouldn't have even bothered. Its on 90 degrees to the axis it is supposed to be and appears to be glued on with no way to remove it. I was hoping I could either remove it, or at least align it so its aestetically pleasing, even though i'm sure its not worth a crap for an actual reading. However, they haven't responded to that email yet, probably cause of the holidays. Maybe i'll get lucky and they can send me a replacement glass/door without one or with one thats on correctly. I wouldn't bother to send the whole unit back though, seems like too much a pain in the ass.

You ungrateful husband! LMAO

That's a pretty neat and thoughtful gift from your wife. Keep us posted on how their customer support treats you.

If the drawer is actually Spanish Cedar you could just sand the varnished finish off of it.

Ya I thought of that too, but it really doesn't look much like the spanish cedar I have seen. Paging Mr. Minister....oh Mr. Minister....

It is not spanish cedar. I have the same model and had my friend make 2 for me. Wish I could hit him up for you but he's been ultra busy. I wanted him to make me a a cabinet for a while now. :(

Thanks for the response. I actually made one with the advice of some here and the help of my dad. I want to make just a platfoem for the bottom, but its too damn cold to get in my dads garage to work on it.

I'll have to post some pics soon..came out pretty nice.
