My hook-up that got me the Gurabos (a select few know what im talking about) has a friend visiting in a month from the DR, he said I can place an order.

What should I ask for that would be cheaper then if I were to order off the net? I would have to assume that locals can get some good deals...but maybe Im wrong. ???

Well you won't be able to get everything that is available domestically as far as I know some companies have to export it and can not sell it in the D.R. for instance (Fuente is one of these companies) If I Were you I would try to pick up some stuff that is available there but not here, like the Flor de gurabo's. But I think if you got him to pick up some premiums you could get them a lot cheaper. If I were you I would check out the Davidoffs and Partagas.

From what I have heard, some of the big boys have to ship them all out. Then, to sell them others have to import them back in. Which would make them similar to prices here.

I'd say go for local smokes that aren't shipped out, stuff like that.

To the best of my knowledge it doesn't have to do with the company but rather with the area that the tobacco is grown in.

How do you think I would go about inquiring about some local sticks? One would have to think that there are some local jems that aren't exported. Im sure nothing of premium caliber, but close.

Any ideas? Or should I just gamble and say, anything but Gurabos, and see what I get!!

La Aurora (Leon Jimezez I believe) make some stuff for local consumption down there.

Whatever happens, I am anxious to see what you get and also how the cigars smoke. Keep us up to date.

Aurora and Leon Jimenez are sore sale for direct consumption in the DR. As for local gems, I did not find any that I thought were great. I did find a bundled brand made in a shop in the Capital called Oryon. It was your basic light bodied Dominican with an ugly wrapper. But the price was $20 for a bundle of 25 and smoked well during a round of golf.

The wife just called...sounds like I got a box of La Aurora #4's and a box of La Aurora #2's
