Hi all:

For the past couple of years, I've been lucky enough to have a strictly Cuban diet. Now that I am back in the States, I would like to rotate in some NCs into my smoking habit. My Secret Santa kindly introduced my to how good NCs can be with an Anejo(a big thanks to gran cru no.2). Yesterday, when I got back from a business trip, I took a trip to my local tabacco shop to see what kind of selection they had. I saw quite a few Padron 1926s and 1964s, a lot of VSGs, some Hemingways, Anejos 48 & 49, but no Opus. I'm a noob when it comes to premium NCs, so I need some input from you all. Which vitola of these premiums would you suggest? To give you and idea of what I like, my favorite ISOMs are the Trinidad RE, PSP2, VR Unicos, and JL PC for a morning smoke. If possible I'd like to keep the per stick price in the $8-14 range. Thanks for all your input.

In my opinion you answered your own question. ;) All of the above are great sticks that won't leave you disappointed. Also, The Avo LE5 is quite good (~$12/stick).

You can't go wrong with anything mentioned but the Corona Gorda VSG will treat you right and be at the low end price wise.

Hi Sam,

I'd recommend you try some Ashton VSG (Tres Mystique, Torpedo, Robusto, Belicoso No.1), PAMs (any but especially Monarcas and Torpedo), AF Cuban Belicosos, La GLoria Cubana Reserva Figurados (Felicias, Flechas, Piramides Clasicas) , Joya de Nicaragua Celebracion (Toro) to start.

PM me your address and I'll get you out a nice "starter kit."

I recommend the Padron 1926's and the Anejos. These are the hardest cigars to find next to the rare Opus cigars.

Thanks for such a generous offer buddy. PM coming your way. Please let me know what I can do in return.

Thanks for the suggestions all. What sizes do you recommend from these brands? Are there different taste profiles between the sizes (i.e VSG robusto vs. VSG torpedo) or does it just fall to an individual's size preference?

Sam

edited to clarify size question.

My pleasure.

I'll be picking and sticking tomorrow morning...gotta beat that holiday rush you know. ;)

More Opus should be available shortly. The local shop got some in today. Personally I have limited my Opus buys to the Power Ranger for now. I have had some burn issues with some of the larger sizes but the Power Ranger always seems to be good.
