Name That Fuente

A generous friend of mine donated a stick to my collection and I can't seem to identify it. He said he got it from a cigar shop in his hometown but can't remember what the cigar is called.

It has a shark shape, and obviously the don carlos portion gives it away as some form of the Fuente line, but I don't see it in the Opus X/Anejo reference guide and I couldn't find any pictures that identified the inscription on the internet.

I thought I read an article on Half-Wheel that talked about a new Don Carlos blend in this shape/size, but now I can't find the article either.

Can anyone identify this stick? I'm afraid to smoke it until I know more... Help!

If you're able, give us a review.  Congrats on the pickup.

Awesome! Thank you all! :) I appreciate it!

I'll definitely post a review! Sounds like a great idea! Thank you Oke!

I did notice that on halfwheel the eye of the shark has a second band whereas the photo in the OP does not.  Can anyone account for that?

Not sure how accurate this comment is, but in the Half-Wheel article comments someone mentions that -

"As usual, the information reported here is wrong. Eye of the Shark isn’t part of the old man’s Private Reserve blend…only the robusto is. EOTS is a different blend…with a different box and no Private Reserve ring. That outdated tradeshow pic is a preliminary mock-up display and not current."

No clue if he's correct but that's the only explanation i have right off the bat.

IF you have the opportunity to smoke one of these, do not pass it up!1 Its amazing

I'm not sure if that's valid.

The box says the old man's 80th.

I would tend to believe it's a new size of his blend.

I've to check CF.

If you look at Scap's picture in the recently purchased thread, his only has the one band.  They may have decided to go with just the one band on the release instead of two.

So how do they smoke
My box needs to rest a bit.

Lit one last night 24 hours after I got it. The wrapper and binder split at the foot, and looked awful. The filler burned nice and even, so once it got behind the split everything shaped up nicely.

I may not have trimmed the head back enough in the beginning, as the draw was pretty tight. I trimmed it further, about halfway through, and it really opened up.

Flavor was smooth, and the nicotine had a good kick.

I got a bit of pepper in the beginning. That immediately faded into a very smooth flavored smoke. I suck at descriptions of flavors, but I'd guess hay and leather were the top notes most of the way through. It got spicier on the last third as everything heated up.

Overall, with some rest, these are going to be great smokes.

I did a review on mine but just haven't posted yet. Hoping to do so this weekend. Mine smoked great. It lived up to the lofty expectations I set after reading other reviews!

If I had two words to describe it - smooth and creamy. More to come!

I'm having a bitch of a time tracking these down. Saw a box go up on eBay for $400 and by the time my coffee got cold it was gone. Singles are running 3X above MSRP in the one place I have seen them in stock.
