Some of you might remember a little while back when I posted about storing my cigars in Ziplock bags with damp paper towel inside. Well I no longer have to do that. I finally got myself a cooler-der up and running. I picked up a Coleman 28 Quart cooler with a great seal on it, 1/4lb heartfelt beads, and a heartfelt digital hygro. Just a couple of days and it was up and going nice and steady. It holds very nicely at 70 degrees and 65%RH. The most drastic change in a week was when I opened it up and it had moved from 70/65 to 69/64. I am so glad that I now have something that allows me to age some sticks and just be able to properly care for the ones that I have. Especially my new Forbidden X robusto

Good going! Iuse a colman 50qt here in Iraq, and it has worked like a dream. Just remember not to drive yourself crazy with the RH, it is smoking good, then it IS good.

If you can, get down to the local B&M and pick up a few boxes, to put the smokes in, or, you could order some spanish cedar trays from cheephumidors.com

Boy, there's some solid advice I wish I'd have figured out a lot sooner. Ask any group of BOTL's what the "optimum" RH is, and in all seriousness you'll get answers from 58% to 75% RH. Point being that a short term move of a point or two (or three, or four) isn't the end of the world, by any means.

Sounds like you have a good solution though I'd have thought 1/4 lb of beads a little light for a cooler of that size. Check Heartfelt's information to verify the amount you need based on cubic feet of storage area.

As mentioned, have fun and enjoy the new storage. Trust me....it'll be too small, very soon....

Best Regards - B.B.S.

Ain't that the truth! But the great thing is that coolers are, without a doubt, the best storage value out there. So when you're ready to grow, $20 will get you a 48qt that'll hold 15 boxes.

Congrats on your new setup.

Wilkey

Sounds like it's working great, what are you storing your smokes in within the cooler?

I have a couple of large unfinished spanish cedar cigar boxes that fill the cooler about 2/3 full. They are RP edge boxes that are farely large they are 8X10X5. They fit perfectly within the cooler.

I like 65% for smoking and as long as it stays between 62-67 I am not too worried about it, but so far 64 has been the only change.

The cooler is 1683 cubic inches and heartfelt says that the 4oz tube is good for a little over 2000 cubic inches. When the tube got here I really questioned it myself, but so far it is going good

I am already noticing that I should have gotten a bigger one. After going to 3 cigar shops last week it is filling up fast. I am realizing really quick that I will end up having more than one cooler. :D

Now you are going down the slipper slope of buying and storing. It won't be long and another cooler will be needed.
