My father-in-law has taken an eye to my tower of power that ive left in his office over the last six months. Being inspired by this board I've set out to venuture into building my own by finding a cabinet and renovating it into a humidor. I went to a local auction tonight and bought this old cabinet for $300 and will take next next month or so to sand it, get it all sealed, seasoned and ready for the transport from the father in laws and then he can keep the tower.

here is the first picture, feel free to give me any advice.

Wow, that will make one hell of a humidor. I just finished my cabinet renovation as well, doesn't quite look like that though :)

Keep us updated!

Very nice, I wish I had the woodworking skill to take on such a project.

Very schweet! Please do post pics when done (before and after.. step by step if you can!) I wouldnt mind trying this myself, but am apprehensive.

Will Do right now im just sanding shelves, but work is calling so I have to go in, when I have it all newly stained and stuff I will post updated pictures. My friends dad at work is going to build me some draws for singles and stuff like the tower of power for down below since hes a carpenter. At this point everything is pretty new to me but its a learning exsperience I wouldn't of did it if it wasn't for the previous projects on this board.

I would line the inside of it with Luan, a mohaghany paneling. Easy enough to cut w/ a razor knife. Will help retain RH.

Good luck!

That looks like a beautiful and sturdy bugger. I can't wait to see it all finished up...

Update 4/4/2007

So far today I sanded down the front part of it and started on the inside before I had to go to work. I figure that the sides and back are going to take the longest. Also inside it has wood blocks that the shelves lay on. Im taking those out and going to put in some nice type of wood (possibly oak) something thats strong. That way the whole thing is squared inside like a box and that way i dont have like 9 sides to cover with luan and painters shilding. I also measured the inside with ajustmets for the luan that would go in and gave the designs for the top shelfs and the bottom indiviual storage I want my friends dad the carpenter to build.

Should have pictures next week before/after I stain it.

That is going to make one hell of a humidor. I love the cherry oak finish, cant wait to see your pics. I hope it holds the RH at your preferd level.

so here are some updated pictures. As stated before I decided to sand it down and get some of the scratches and stuff out of the wood. As of right now I have sanded the whole thing down except the back which I'm not going to sand down because its going to be covered anyways, and the top which I will do this weekend. The is a picture of the first stain and some of the wood I started to cut the morning.

Picture #1

This is the first stain

The grey circles are from my camera it sucks, but gets the point across.

Picture #2

This is a picture of some of the wood that will go back inside. When looking at the first picture you will notice that the sides have square holes. The wood rectangle paneling at the bottom with the old wood stain covers those holes and there is a frame border that goes around them. The two bigger boards go on the inside on the left and right, once the stain has dried and is to the wifes liking I will drill holes that will screw the inside boards into breaks between those squad frames. Next week I will be cutting the Luan wood and putting in the painters shielding and finishing the bottom inside hopefully.

I'm also using some wood cock that doesnt have an oder and will hold in a humid environment.

Caulk that is some funny shit  , that is going to be one kickass humi. Keep the pic coming

The top shelf was my first time using a router, so I'm going to try again today to remake 1-3 to fill the top portion.

The cigars I have in there are gifts I just received since I'm getting married here on July 7th.
